Warming up your car...
Ever since i could remember ive always had an automatic car and before i drive off in the morning, ive always warm up my car. Im continuing to do it also on my Evo X but my friends are telling me i dont need to. They're saying its the tranny, on an automatic car the fluid needs to be warm up. Is it true? can i just start my car and take off?
No. Says this in a manual. Any car with a turbo needs to warm up and cool down. In the winter the cool down thing is sort of pointless as long as you don't get on it (It's -2 here right now...). I start my car and try to wait about 2 minutes before I go. Try to get it to at least the small bar and take it easy. I don't get on my car until it's fully warmed up and even then I don't really get on it. Sort of pointless in traffic and winter.
ive heard that all you have to do is let it run for about 30 sec to let the oil pressure build up and keep it under 3k rpm until the car is fully warm and let rip
ive also heard that you can idle it until the rpms start to drop and the temp needle starts to move, and then take it easy until the car is warmed up

Not to be a D$^K Head but yes it is always a wise choice to warm up your car. I start mine every morning 15 mins before I go to PT. Take care of your car and it will take care of your wallet.

yeah i try to let it warm up at least a little before i drive off. it doesnt take that long here in florida since it never really gets cold anyways lol
and it drives like sh*t when its not warm

The best way to warm a car is to drive it. You wont warm the Tranny, Xfer and rear Diff just letting the car sit and idle. 30 - 60 Seconds before driving off is fine but letting the car idle up to operating temp every time is probably doing much more harm than good.
As an EMT, I respond to calls in the middle of the night (freezing temps here in VT) with my evo, and there's not really time to warm it up. The 4g63 sputters and complains under partial throttle when cold, but if you really need to put the hammer down, it'll do it for you. Course, I've got no idea what that's doing to the internals....
But when the internals die, I guess it's just a sign that I ought to go to a 2.3!
P.S. - the evo saved a lady's life the other day - she was choking, and I was able to respond to the scene 13 MINUTES earlier than the ambulance. She wasn't going to be able to make it 13 minutes w/out breathing. Wonder if that counts as a tax write-off?

^^ Its 50 today and I'm in shorts right now. Hah. I am personally curious how important warmup is really. I am usually one of those wait till the needle moves then drive it easy to temp. But in the winter, I can't just sit there that long. I usually give it at least 1 minute. Always drive it easy to temp. <3k.
