New EVO Inquiry

Hey everyone,

My buddy has been looking for an evo lately and ran across an 03 RS with 46k miles for $16,500. He really wanted an 06 but this seems like a good deal.

Do you think this is a good deal if it is in good shape and what are some good points to look for on the 03 models when I go look it over since it is a first year model for the U.S.?

Thanks for the help.

Transfer cases are expensive, I payed 3k + installation for mine after the one I had went out on me.

The one your buddy is looking at has good mileage. Is it modded?

FYI: Mitsubishi did not make the RS version in 2003.

The 1st RS version was available as a 2004 model.

well it depends on his budget. If he can afford it than get the one he wants. If he's all about the performance and he'll be modding the crap out of it then it might be a good idea.

I did not know this, I will talk to him later about it.

Also I don't think it is modded, but I haven't even seen it yet. I was asking what he wanted to know.

It is a good mileage which makes me wonder on the price. He wanted the 06 probably because I had it..lol. And he is on a tight budget as well.

I know that it had more years of abuse as opposed to a newer model but beside that is this a common occurrence with the older models?

To throw a wrench in the 03-04 issue. I bought an 03, used from a dealer here in town. I am very good friends with the guy who sold it to me.

Car was advertised and sold as an 03 Evo VIII. I recently pulled the map to change some stuff and it has an 04 ECU ID. I don't know any other way to prove one way or another that it is an 03 or an 04. The build date is Middle of 03.

The RS issue is much easier to solve though.

True, but you can find a better deal than that. look. almost the same price and much lower mileage. but whatever he is happy with.
