Looking for an Evo IX
Looking for an Evo IX
I am brand new to this forum, and am really impressed with the Evolutions in general, i am big into american cars, i have a fox body mustang that has 10 second potential and I am looking to sell my 03 lightning and get into something that still performs but gets closer to 20 MPG, so the Evo Ix is pretty much a no brainer to me.
what should i look for when buying one of these cars? i am a hands on guy so working on cars is no problem, i know they are probably a different world from american cars but i think i could handle it. But what are common problems with them, and how much money should i expect to spend on a CLEAN car with say under 50k miles on it?

You should go into it looking to spend at least 20-24 thousand. That's even pretty cheap for an evo IX. You might be able to find one with around 50k for that price. As far as things to look for, make sure it has been properly maintained. See any and all service work or warranty work done on the car, and know whether it's been in any wrecks. Drive it. Make sure it shifts smoothly, and that the clutch grabs fairly quick and pretty firm. If it is stock, make sure it spools right up when you get into it. Find out everything that has ever been done on the car.
You should be ok.

So you generally know what is done to the cars.

i got my ix with 9k miles for 25k, i was looking for about 6 months and it popped as i was about to travel to see another one with more miles and i jumped on it
make sure it feels right, maybe go out and drive a few and i would try to find one with mild mods
