Considering an Evo X

Hello all, first post here. Tried searching and couldn't find something that answered my question. Now I'm going to need complete honesty out of all of you about your cars.

I currently own a Stage 2 '05 STI. I love my car, but the Evo X has just been growing on me and after driving it I'm positive I want to make the switch.

All I know thus far about the Evo X is that it comes with a crappy factory tune. Now this is the part where your honesty comes in. What are some common issues people might be having with their Evo Xs? Performance wise, mechanical wise, etc. Please be honest, my mind has been made and I will get the car. I just want to know what I'm getting myself into.

I can admit my car understeers, now admit somethings about your cars.

Oh, one last question... Like I said, I have a Stage 2 STI. I know Evos are faster, but will stock Evo X be slower than Stage 2 STI?

Try the search function. If there is an issue with the car, people have posted it numerous times.

Guessing you can't answer my question and didn't see the part where I said I searched. Yeah, I can search "issues" "problems" all that kind of stuff and read a million threads. I'm sure some can answer my question, which is what are COMMON issues?

Well the crappy stock tune is known for making the car run filthy rich. Before my tune if a really got on it, it was like I was driving a diesel there was a lot of black smoke coming out the tail pipe. That and the transmission are my two only problems I have experienced, but the notchy tranny has gone away at about 8000-10000 miles and my car has been tuned so it runs much more efficiently and power gains are amazing.

If you are coming from an 05 STI then you will be really impressed with the handling of the X. And about the STI being slower yes stock for stock your right. But a stage 2 will stomp a stock X. Now a stage 2 X will be a whole different story.

Hope this helps and keep us posted on when you get your X

You wont regret it!!!!

Common Reported Problems:

- Overly Rich Factory Tune
- Notchy/Griding Transmission
- Fuel Dilution in the Oil
- Paint prone to Rock Chips
- Various Electrical Glitches (CELs)
- Staples pull out of seat by the faux seat belt holes
- Clutch is weak on GSRs
- SST can overheat on MRs

Some people have all these problems, some have none. If you want to know the specifics about one of these then search that specific issue and you should get some results. Many of these are even Stickies.

There are many more that I have read about but most are isolated incidents. I hope that helps.

05 sti (stock) vs stock 08 X (stock) = sti faster in a straight line but handling...

when you say stage 2 you mean cobb ap flash stg 2 right? whats your mods?

i had a 06 sti cobb stg 2 and it was a very nice car good motor and great trans.. but i think the X would be a good upgrade from your 05sti.. i can tell you that the trans in the sti is better then the evo x trans but your going to like the longer *** gears and you will notice that the car is going to be a lot slower then your car but thats only is you dont mod

Well to be perfectly honest I don't plan to mod the X much besides springs, intake, exhaust and a tune. This transmission thing is kinda bothering me, but I guess coming from STI that's hard to avoid. I'm going to miss the STI beeping shift noise. lol

Mods on my STI:
Turbo XS Air Intake
GFB Stealth Adjustable Blow Off Valve
Invidia Turbo Back Exhaust
Invidia Turbo Up Pipe
Custom Lightweight Alminum Pulley Kit
Cobb Racing Adjustable Short Throw Shifter
Excedy Organic Racing Clutch 1200lbs
Excedy Racing Flywheel
Swift Sport Springs
Cobb Accessport v2 - Stage 2 ECU reflash
Titanium Shifter Knob
BF Goodrich TA/KDW II Y Rated PErformance Tires
