Dealers dont get a great deal on Mobil 1 for the most part. Therefore they pay retail like we would at a parts store and mark it up to make money. We dont stock much because of that. We let customers bring their own oil and we just charge some for labor and filter/washer. be friendly and ask for a breakdown on price. I do it for customers.

You shouldn't take it so personally. A lot of shops don't care to compete with jiffy lube or do-it-your-selfers. That's their way of saying they don't do oil changes unless you are in for more services that they can make a profit on.

that's a rip off ....i went to my dealer the first oil change with 5qts. of mobil 1 and they changed mine for $10...including a new filter...maybe $4 labor and $6 for a filter....that's a total of about $35.....but i checked the level after they did it and they had overfilled it by a 1/4 of an inch...lmao....so i drained some out and have been doing my own oil changes ever since

I just went through this today. Dealer wanted $72 + shop fees + tax, so probably $80-85. Everyone was out of Mobil1, and the only place I could find it had it at retail price ($7 / qt.). $10 for the filter, $1.50 for the washer, and I'm out about $50 or so total.

No Wal-Mart within a 15 mile radius had 5W-30 Mobil1 of any type. Stupid shortage. At least there's a $10 rebate on it.

On the reciept of my oil change at another dealer it says that they used 5W20. is there any real difference of 5w20 and 5w30? there both still fully synthetic right? should i be worried?

I went to the dealer and picked up 3 oil filters for $~19.50 after tax. Completely forgot that we need a crush washer. Is this needed everytime? Can I just pick one up at home depot? Dealer is a good 25 minutes away and it's not worth the $4 in gas (there/back + traffic) for a $1.50 part.

$35 for oil
$15 for oil filter
it may take 1/2 an hour to do oil change but they will charge u for 1 hour anyways, well in cali $50-75$ dealer (mitsu) $35-65 non dealer (jiffylube)
rember the guy doing the work is probly making 27.00 an hour tops dealer (head guy Formen). so the dealer/shops makin $4 on the oil, $2 on the filter. $38 on hourly charge.
rember to add disposal fee on dirty oil and dirty oil filter in the hourly bill
soo 110 is high as it should go unless ur buying royal purple $6-8 a quart

There not steeling if u owned tat company u just made $15-38 on an oil change u charged 110 tat sucks no profit

So i do my own oil changes

And never go when there are buzy because there rushing car in and out and u wouldnt wont your car rushed u wont some one to take there time

The dealership probably only charges $25.00 for a normal oil change but they probably dont keep M1 in stock so that means a trip to the autoparts store (markup).. When I first bought my Evo I let them change the oil in it the first few times but they told me to bring the M1 or face paying $7-$10 a quart for it. Same thing with the Subaru dealer, glad they gave me the heads up before trying to nail me for $10 a quart. Most dealers will let you bring your oil with you. You can get 5qts of M1 at walmart for ~ $20.00

what it comes down to is you can't go to the dealership for anything that your paying out of pocket because they charge what ever they want... they're a rip off...
