The IX MR has no problems in stock form for street use, as you start modifying you'll find the stock clutch will not hold more than about 325whp reliably. The MR 6 speed has also had a few 4th gear failures but these have all happened on the race track with modified cars (mostly road track). Since the car your buying is used check for signs of abuse or neglect, such as grinding in the transmission, transfer case whine, etc. Also, The timing belt on a Evo needs to be replaced at 60K miles. Changing the clutch on a 6 speed car can be a bear.

2nd owners do not inherit the 5yr/60K bumper to bumper, 10yr/100K powertrain warrany, although if you get one with low miles it may still have some warranty left. You might check with the dealer to make sure the warranty has not been previously voided due to modification. In general, Mitsubishi service / customer relations is not very good but it varies from dealer to dealer.

08 Evo X MR is the first USDM Evo with a Auto. The factory ECU is already re-writeable so there's no "chip". There are tons of exhaust and tuning threads. Start with these newbie thread / stickys.
