would you rather...

2 cars very similar, both have the same mods...car 1 makes 311ish hp 350ish ft-lb, and car 2 makes 330ish hp 333ish ft-lb. which car would you take and why?

My question stems from me not being able to decide which car to buy. Car 1 is average #'s i've found for an 08 sti with intake TBE and a tune. Car 2 Is average #'s i have found for evo x with the same mods. Everything i have seen and read about both cars says get the evo and i do like the evo more, however the sti with its hatch is much more practical for me.

im just wondering if there is a night and day difference between the 2 cars onces they are tuned? Also the car is to be a DD and probably won't see a track, so i am looking for a fun car around town.

thanks

Torque is an actual measured number, Horsepower is a gimmicy marketing number found by a math forumla based off Torque.

Torque is always the best number to go by.

horsepower*** this formula has been the industry standard since 1959... no gimmicks here...

Or given that 1 hp = 550 ft·lbf/s, 1 ft = 0.3048 m, 1 lbf ≈ 4.448 N, 1 J = 1 N·m, 1 W = 1 J/s: 1 hp = 746 W

SAE certified horsepower

In 2005, the SAE introduced a new test protocol for engine horsepower and torque. The new protocol eliminates some of the flexibility in power measurement, and requires an independent observer present when engines are measured. The test is voluntary, but engines completing it can be advertised as "SAE-certified".

Many manufacturers began switching to the new rating immediately, with multi-directional results; the rated output of Cadillac's supercharged Northstar V8 jumped from 440 horsepower (330 kW) to 469 horsepower (350 kW) under the new tests, while the rating for Toyota's Camry 3.0 L 1MZ-FE V6 fell from 210 horsepower (160 kW) to 190 horsepower (140 kW). The first engine certified under the new program was the 7.0 L LS7 used in the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Certified power rose slightly from 500 horsepower (370 kW) to 505 horsepower (377 kW).

torque*** where
T= r x F
r is the position vector relative to the fulcrum
F is the force acting on the object

thought it would clear up the whole horsepower debacle.. its pretty real, no gimmick... torque is just a scientific formula for all rotational objects... hope ur good at math!!!

More importantly than just the HP rating is the power to weight ratio. That will determine which one is typically faster in a straight line..

However, there's more to a car than straight-line performance. It has been well "proven" that the EVO, in stock form anyway, handles far better than the STI.

Seach for the Top Gear Evo versus STI comparison and you'll see the difference.
