Question Which Car Would You Choose?

Hello, first of all let me introduce myself to the community. My names Regan, and I'm a brand new member to this forum. I'm not very old, 18 years of age but hopefully that won't hurt. I hope I have a lot of fun and learn a lot of information about the cars and members on this site. Anyways let's get to what this thread is going to be about.

I'm looking for a new car soon, sometime in the spring I'll be purchasing one. Anyways I mainly have two choices at the moment, the Evo VIII and a few versions of the skyline. Either the R 33, R 32, R 34 or the GT-R. There all basically the same car so I won't mind. The only difference is the GT-R is the AWD version I believe, I can't quite say. Let me say that all these cars will be older though and imported from Japan, that means Right Hand Drive.

My price range is around $16,000 and that's mainly the reason I'm choosing the Skyline, I've checked into importing them and for an $800,000 YEN car it would cost me approximately $7400.00 for the car and another $5,000.00 to cover the exporting and importing fees. If I do decide to buy an Evo, I'm buying a Rolling Chassis and I'll be fixing up the body, interior and engine bay. My father's a mechanic so he'll be able to help me. Do you think it's possible to buy a Evo Chassis and put and engine in it for $16,000?

Anyways what car would you choose if you were in my shoes, with my budget. Or what car would you choose in general. I'm struggling choosing and I'd like a little advice, hopefully you guys can give me it. Thanks a lot!

Regan

Edit!: Sorry I'm going edit my initial post. I found one more car I forgot to include, The Mazda RX-7 Third generation. It's a really nice car and if it had to come down to it money wise I'd choose either this or the Skyline, possibly even a Silvia S14 or S15. My real problem here is what's better for in city driving, I have no problem driving in the winter at all considering that's when I learned to drive. During a down pour of snow in Canada if I might add. Can anyone point out a few reasons why the Evo's better then the Skyline and vice versa? I've checked online as well, can't really find anything.

What condition Skyline can you get for $5,000? Thats a clapped out beater of a Nissan, isn't it?

Have you considered the cost of maintaining the car as well? There are no Skylines in the junkyard to pick parts from, and you can't go to AutoZone to buy parts for RB series engines.

I'd stick with somthing you can get parts for, first off.

ehh this is going to be your first car ?? Are you going to drive it everyday and pick up some girls ?? well if that go for some fancy car skyline hmm... maybe the new one r35. R32 33 kinda old and WOW $5000 and no problem with import or even Euro car.

But if u want to do lots of track and dont care if the car beat up get EVO easy to find for parts, and cheaper with everyway. I mean the car even look good itself

If i were you i start buy a nice used EVO and learn to drive it then change to car or mod it

good luck with whatever you go for

Thanks for the info guys! Also there Skylines are in great condition. Low mileage. It's just the fact that the Japanese dealers are selling them for $800,000-1.5M YEN which is 0.01 in Canadian Dollars. That's why it's so cheap. I've also been looking at the Mazda RX 7, third generation. The car looks amazing! Personally I really want an Evo, but for my price range it doesn't seem like I'd be able to get one that cheap. The S13, S14 and S15 don't look to bad either.

Here's a Skyline http://www.terra2imports.ca/import-j...4710774114.htm

Here's a Mazda Rx-7 http://www.terra2imports.ca/import-j...8357886938.htm

And they've even got a super old Evo on here. http://www.terra2imports.ca/import-j...7278174356.htm

Coming from a Nissan owner... Id say go for the Skyline. And I'd love to say it was my bias, but clearly its not. All points made however were valid. Mind you I also started on a '96 eclipse

Sorry for the double post. Anyways like I stated before, when you import a car from Japan and your money value is worth way more then there's cars cost a lot less. Cars in Japan that cost them $800,000 Japanese Dollars or YEN, will cost me approximately $7200.00 Canadian dollars. The Japan dollar is 0.01 of what our dollar is worth. So you can buy really nice Skyline and imports for dirt cheap. Unfortunately I'm using Terra 2 Imports which is for Canada.

I was quite surprised myself when I seen the site. My friend bought his Toyota Celica GT off of that site. When I first seen the site though I thought it was a scam, I thought whoever was selling their Nissan Skyline for $7,000.00 must of been crazy!

Actually, getting parts for an older Evolution (I-III) is not that bad here in the States and Canada (compared to a Skyline) and alot of parts are interchangable with DSMs (turbo Eagle Talons and Mitsubishi Eclipses). That might be a cool "rare" car thats more practical to own/modify.

Only the 96-98 R33 is eligible for importation to the US and under Canada's laws, you can only import a car if it's more that 15 years old.

So right now you have very few options if you want a Skyline in the US and you can only get an older Skyline in Canada.

I actually looked into importing an old Evo into the US and the car itself isn't that expensive at all. Unfortunately, you have to spend about 5+k getting the car up to emissions specs and even then it can be a "show car" (not a daily driver).

Of course, that's just if you want to do it the legal way.... haha
