If you think 1000$ to 5000$ is super expensive then yes.

haha okay I thought so. Over all I only want to put around 5k tops for the car. It has 80 miles and I got the car for 10k. We'll see, if I get super hooked then I might end up doing a lot more, but we'll see

My advice, if you're going to put some money into it, just try to
make it look good If you're going for performance though,
don't waste your money on things like an intake, you won't see
any power gains, keep saving up for that turbo.
This isn't true. With enough well chosen bolt ons and and good tune or RRM chip, you'll see decent performance increase without having to fork out that much cash all at once for a turbo which will then also require more bolt ons to get full potential. Decide how much you're willing to spend then talk to Rob at RRM. He'll make some good recommendations.

No you won't, I had every RRM bolt-on, high compression pistons (from Buschur) and I gained very little power over stock. Bolt-ons are a waste in terms of bang for your buck. If you want to learn more about your engine or modding in general, go for it but don't buy an intake under the naive idea that you'll gain any power from it.

Im gonna agree with amby here. He would know first hand about the bolt-ons. If you are really looking for decent gain in power your best bet is to go turbo. Id say snag up the speed corps manifold and other mods to go with it. You can pretty much piece together a turbo kit for about $1,000-$2,500 depending on if you want new or used parts. Check this out http://stores.speedcorps.com/-strse-...Categories.bok thats pretty much just about everything you would need for a turbo build on there!!!

The most important thing about doing a turbo build is finding a shop you trust, that way if something goes wrong you're not alone.

I hear that all to well. The place that did my original turbo setup, cnfx, who is no longer in business. Did a horrible job and now im paying in the end by having to redo my entire kit!!

Are you saying that 25-40 hp gains are absolutely impossible with well chosen bolt ons and a good tune or chip?

Yes, unless a tune itself yields 25 to 40 HP, which on an NA 4-banger that can only rev to 6500 RPM is very unlikely.

That is very depressing and I hope you're wrong.

The experiences of a lot of people supports what I'm saying, as well as common sense. You're not going to see a 20% increase in power with a tune.

Basic bolt ons do not respond well with our SOHC engine.
But doing a conversion is a different story.

I would think for the price of a conversion you could just turbo the damn thing.
