Joining the Ranks

All -

If all goes according to plan, I shall be joining the ranks of Evo owners with a 2006 Evo MR SE shortly. First and foremost, I would like to thank the community for the wealth of information and knowledge that has been aggregated here.

I have a couple questions I have not found an answer to while browsing through the forums:

I was hoping one could explain to me why, when I called a dealership asking to see if there was a service history on the VIN, Mitsubishi made note that the car was not even registered in their system.

The CarFax report is clean, the car has just shy of 4000 miles (what kind of self-respecting Evo owner would not even drive the car?), the car appears to be (and is sworn by the owner to be) in "showroom" condition. The car has not been modified and is claimed to not have been raced or launched (I am a little skeptical, but if the car is on the stock rubber, I would not be too worried).

I will be flying out to see the car this weekend, and will be prepared to close the deal then. Is there anything in particular the evolutionm.net brain trust would suggest I look for in such an extraordinarily low mileage car before I close the deal? I already have my own list of what I consider to be obvious things to check for, based on common sense and my trolling of the forums.

I appreciate any and all information you could provide to me.

Thanks,

-Bryan

Take 'er for a drive and if all seems well, seal the deal! Make sure the warranty has not been voided for any reason.

Oops, forgot to mention that part, the warranty is all set according to the CarFax report.

I got too distracted by Mitsubishi saying that the car was not in their system "like it had not been sold" to ask them directly about the warranty. I am guessing that could not affect the warranty status anyways.

i would call mitsu and see about the warrenty... besides that just check for lil things like wholes where they dont belong where gauges could have been placed and under the hood look at all the bolts and see if they look like they have been messed with... he said thecar has never been modded but dont just take his word for it, check the paint lines on the bolts... drive it ad make sure the clutc is good and it doesn do some weird stuff while driving... and if it all seems good go for it its an amazinggggggggggg car!!!

lol when you buy a evo dont buy it for the warranty please. dealership tries to void it every chance they get so for get that. Remember any little issue with the car your going to fix anyways. Like they said above drive it REALLY GET ON IT. test brakes boost Noises tire pressure. Look in the engine for obvious mods bov upgrade exhaust system lines that are T-fitted check all electrical. look to where it idles at rough or smooth. check all fluids that you can. Then on top of that take it to the local dealer ship for ther inspection and pay the 50 or so dollars like i did the have them fully look it over. Make sure the car can cruise a well no feeling of downshifiting etc. Pop hook LOOK for Missing bolts please most dont and could have a exhaust leak. Make sure everything feels tight and snug. Look for Dents in intercooler pipes etc. Dont forget to get it look for Cel codes but dealership will do that for you. Make sure you drive it more then 10 miles and longer then 30 minutes so any reset cels or rather issues will show themselfs.

P.S. Dont forget to GET ON IT MAKE SURE ITS BOOSTING WELL. dont forget since its a MR they are known for there tranny problems make sure its shifting though each gear with ease and clutch engauges as it should. hopes this helps and good luck

yeah also forgot to add what rockmanx said... dont worry to much over the warrenty though... basically as soon as you drive it away the warrenty is voided haha mistu doesnt like evo warrenties... and REALLY check the car, when i bught mine the guy said it had never been modified, then i started to mod it and i notced so much had been done to the car because i just started lookig and sa things didnt llook right example: dents in intercooler piping, missing bolts on pipes, exhaust bolts were all different, just really get chec get under the car and see whats gipong on under... and test drive he s**t out of it, safely though
