Hopefully in the next month or so i'm gonna be buying an evo, probably a 9... I've been looking around, checking lots and dealers within 100 miles of my house...im not really getting the results i would have hoped for, I came across this 06' which is pretty much what im looking for in terms of mileage and color, but is a four hour drive from where i live.

I was just wondering if there was anything specific i should be looking out for when it comes to actually checking out these cars, for example this one i came across is a huge red flag CLICK i sent the seller an email asking why it was significantly cheaper than the book value, but i dont really expect to get an honest answer...

Look for one with decent mileage...and a good price. As for technical facts...make sure it's only had 1 owner and get a car fax to make sure it had all routine maintenance done at all times and prefereably no accidents. Try to buy one thats if not stock, pretty close. Not only does it make modding more fun, but it gives you that piece of mind that the previous owners intentions were'nt to race it. Make sure you test drive it and everything is safe and sound...INCLUDING THE CLUTCH. Alot of people trade these things once something goes wrong or warranty goes out...especially if they're not a car enthusiast. Just make sure ur buying a good car...not a beaten up POS. Cuz lots of Evo owners beat on their car if not once in a while...they tend to do it often. But they're made to withstand a lil abuse once in a while. Pretty much just make sure its a great car.

if they say its stock, its been modded before

 

I get more worried about descriptions where the seller goes out of his way to mention that its never been modified....seems very suspicious to me haha

 

never modded is a lie unless the car has like 3,000 miles its believable
dont fall into that trap and just go over the car very very good before you buy it

 

There is no Vin number posted so i would not trust that seller unless you can get that #. I got scammed that way a while back looking for my evo. ( I didn't lose anything but time and a little hope of course!) But just keep looking and dont get discouraged, you will find what you are looking for. EvojoeIX is right, you have a much better chance of finding a modded evo 9 today than a stocker. Good Luck!

 

maybe a salvage title? even so, you need to test drive it and get a feel for it. then make your decision.

 

Al the statements above me were right in most instances, but I thought it was established that you were looking at DEALERSHIPS.....not Private Sellers?
Was theat the idea....or did I miss something?
That's why my oppinions expresses were if you were gonna buy from a dealer.

 

That's odd considering I know plenty of stock evos, including myself, who don't abuse them.
IMO, look for one near stock, maybe even with Mitsu. maintenance records. The person I bought mine from had a free maitenance plan so everything was taken care of.

Yea, low prices for these new cars is a red flag, most likely an incident on the title. If you're dead serious about purchasing soon, purchase from carfax.com, a 30 day unlimited account. With that you can plug in as many VIN #'s and get as many reports as you want.

Do some searching to get a feel for the modifications typically done for these cars. That way you'll have an idea of where to look if they says it has not been modded.

Check for turned bolts on the body work (the paint will be chipped). I believe that the transfer case and diff make high pitch whining sounds when they are about to go. Ask about maintenance and only believe them if they tell you something bad.

I'd be careful about buying from a dealer, the car could have been abused and they wouldn't know.
