Shell V-Power vs Sunoco 93...Anyone notice difference in MPG ?

So usually I always try and fill up at Shell because of V Power but there's always those times there isnt a shell around so I usually will try and find a Sunoco next. Of course I know v power isnt special but its been good to me and the evo but Ive noticed I get ****ty gas mileage running it.

Ive been noticing this for a while now and then the other day when I filled up at Sunoco and my MPG increased greatly I was pretty sure. Then to back that up my friend drives a V8 Toyota Tundra and said the same thing he noticed when he would switch from shell to sunoco.

Anyone else notice this at all ? If its true I think Ill be running Sunoco more than Shell now. Im not sure why this is happening or if its true but if it is I can only guess that either they use more ethanol in the gas for cleaning purposes or its the nitrogen enriched deal.

Anyone have any opinions ?

Good possibility the additives, like you say ( ethanol or nitrogen enrichment whatever) is
having an effect with the mileage. I know ethanol blends do decrease mileage but promote performance and cleaning. I run E-85 all the time now and mileage is not my concern.
BTW when I used to run 91 craptane in Cali it was 76 or Chevron.

Sunoco 93 is just a name brand gas. It's the same as the Shell V-power. But alot of peeple like Sunoco more than Shell.

hes right, for the most part... the gas you buy from station to station all comes from the same refinery, however, if you go from say florida to virginia, you will notice a difference in gasoline (from a tuning standpoint)

I've always used Sunoco, because I've never noticed any problems. I've filled up at a BP before and noticed negative differences, so I just stick with Sunoco 93. I miss the Sunoco in Michigan though. They had 94 octane

Only sell 91 around here. BP used to sell 92 but they went to 91 now.... I tried Shell before and my car did seem to run better (stopped the random idel shake I used to get every hour or so) but I definitely noticed a drop in mileage. Since 91 is the only thing within 10 miles of me, that I know of, I may try it again since it's all 91 now but otherwise I was sticking with BP's 92.

whats this random idle shake you speak of? I notice sometimes when im sitting in traffic, the idle will drop to ~650 or so and sit for a second then go back to normal. it doesnt matter if the a/c is on or not. is that what youre talking about?

i dont fill up with shell because there arent many around, but i REFUSE to use sunoco gas. on two or three different occasions, in different states, on different roads, I have filled up with sunoco 93, and immediately after all my check engine lights came on. turns out i got bad gas both times, and had to drive around out of boost, let the car idle, and then drain the gas.

as if that wasnt enough, I told a buddy of mine with a modded S4 about sunoco, and he got stuck having to fill up with gas from there, and the same thing happened, he had to have AWE drain it all as well. too bad bc that is the only station i ever used to fill up at. now the only stations i use are HESS when up in NY, and BP when down in philly. havent had any problems yet (knock on wood).

^^i used to like the sunoco 94 to, too bad they stopped distributing that. and obviously dont use wawa gas bc they get whatever is left over, which is why its always so cheap, and they only advertise up to 92, NOT 93. but to ur original question, most likely change in mpg because of additives but I have not experienced this first hand.

Mine's more of a random single shake every few seconds that lasts only a few seconds. I haven't experienced it forever, so I'm not too worried. I know Shell helped it out when I ran it though but I didn't need to keep running it (only used it 2-3 times since I noticed the MPG thing and it used to have lower octane rating than other stations). Could be a random fluke but it went away from that (as far as I can tell...)

very interesting, i no alot of guys in the jersey area that run only shell because they "say" they have proven gains on the dyno.

honestly i always thought it was a load of crap, but what you said is interesting.

the only reason i stated it is because i was right next to the car watching the car get tuned while waiting for my car
I can say i saw it first hand and not hearsay
Next time i will try it with a full tank and see what happens
20 more hps im my car would really make it even more ridiculous
