I am a NOOB putting together my first Evo. It's an '06 IX SE with the 5 speed and the black leather shift knob. Someone stole my knob and I bought a stock replacement. But now looking at the leather shift boot I think i am missing something else. My boot just ends in a tattered leather stitched opening where the shifter linkage comes thru. Can you guys tell me what connects the boot to the knob? Am I missing an endcap or spacer or something?
Thanks in advance.....EvoTommy

There is physically nothing that connects the shift knob to the boot. At the top of the boot there is a plastic washer piece or whatever you want to call it which basically just keeps the pieces of the leather boot together.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I am missing the plastic washer piece then cause mine is just the leather boot material ends with the stitching exposed.

I actually just got my new suede leather boot and a new shifter knob. If you want the stock rubber piece and the stock 5 spd knob let me know. I can sell you mine for cheap.

Redline Goods (Google them) makes a very nice leather shift boot. I have one, and it's just like the stock vinyl one, except real leather. It does not have a plastic ring up top, but the stitching serves that function just fine.

MRs have the reverse collar at the top, no washer or anything before the knob.
