Now, 80-100 he gets there in 1/10 the time I do

I remember the first weeks with the Porsche felt like a dream. I couldn't believe I was driving on the freeway in 6th without ever even thinking of downshifting to pass people. The other day I drove that friend's car, great car and super fast once it gets going, but the gurgling motor struggling to move the car is not a sound I love.

With the stock turbo and a tune and exhaust it is a little more bareable, but still horrible IMO. Riceball if you have a stock Evo I'd love to do a top gear pull from 40-80 with you (closed course, of course). Just to show you how "little to no lag" the Evo has.
i also bet that your porsche doesnt have a 2.0L 4 banger either

the on-off nature of a small displacement turbo vehicle is the nature of the beast...some like it, i know i do, some dont...

Could be his tune, could be that it is 5sp instead of 6sp, could be the fact that the green is larger than the stock 16g. I bet had I done the GSC S1s on my car it would've been perfect since I still had the stock turbo.

It didn't, and neither does the STi. That's the point. The question was "do you ever get sick of the power band" and my answer was "Yes, I hated the 2.0l large turbo power band and prefer the larger motor's power band."

But it is just like opinions on the looks of the car, I never said it sucked or that it was stupid, just that I hate/d it. Had it been possible to find a regular WW, GG, EB, or TB IX in decent shape with low miles for a good price I'd have gotten it instead, unfortunately that was no where near possible. And I wasn't about to buy another new car with no warranty from Mitsubishi after the first one.

The only time my "power band" bothers me is when im not in it...
At first i was kinda bummed about the lag on my hta35r, but now i learned to drive it a little better. I must say I love the big turbo setup. While running the stock turbo "lag" was almost nothing. So if you are talking about hating the "lag" on a stock turbo Evo.. Your crazy.

All definite probabilities. So I might have missed something. You are back to an Evo after the Porsche? I'm guessing so due to your sig. What were the major reasons for going back to an Evo, especially since turbo lag wasn't what called you back!

You all should drive a regular car for awhile. Your evos make more power at 2.5K than my Eclipse does at 5750...I have no problem whatsoever pulling out into traffic with my 140-150 hp.

+1

I drove a rental car all weekend long and drove my Evo today for the first time in 5 days. It was like night and day.

I love the stock spooling turbo... for a daily driver, anything more than stock or FPRed IMO is too much for the traffic and lights and what not on a daily basis.

I actually love the Evo's powerband. I have had a 2 liter WRX, and a 350Z in the past, and I prefer the Evo's powerband over those. The only thing I did like over the Evo, was that in the Z, I didn't need to give it as much gas from a stop, to make it not bog like the Evo does sometimes.

The EVO's power band is like any other small displacement turbo. The IX helps things out a bit with MIVEC. Once you learn to anticipate the lag and/or launch it better it makes little difference. If you can't figure that out, you shouldn't be driving it..

No, as long as you keep the revs in the power band you're fine. The lag isn't bad at all.
