VIII vs. IX Turbo

I know some of the differences already.. Such as the hotside on an VIII is 9.8 vs. the 10.5 on the IX. And the compressor wheels are different between the VIII and IX, but are the compressor housings different in size also?

The reason I ask this is because I bought a Samco intake pipe a while back, and it is said to replace the stock intake pipe. I have the Apexi intake filter with the induction box, and it fits flawlessly with the stock intake pipe. I tried using the Samco intake pipe, and the filter would not fit because it was hitting the ACD reservoir. I looked at the MAPerformance website (where I purchased the part a while back) and it says that the intake pipe is for the VII/VIII's, and it doesn't say IX's. If you think about it, the IX's were the ones to have ACD's with the car (I think 05 VIII's did also, I'm not completely certain) and thats why Samco did not include the IX's to fit it because of the ACD reservoir. But my friend told me that the VIII's had the intercooler spray reservoir, which took up the same amount of space. Now I'm clueless on why the Samco intake pipe is not fitting.

Samco usually makes some quality stuff, so do I just have a factory defect piece? The only other reason why the Samco intake pipe wouldn't fit would be because the compressor housings are actually different sizes, and the IX one being a bigger housing causing the intake pipe to extend out farther than in the VIII, which in turn would make a cone filter hit the ACD reservoir.

Thanks in advance EvoM.

Edit: Another possible reason would be that the intercooler spray reservoir on the VIII's are actually smaller than the ACD reservoir (or take up less space), allowing the Samco to extend a little further in the VIII's than the IX's.

well not all 8 turbos have then 9.8 housing, 05's like mine came with a 10.5 like the 9, the 05's also have ACD's like the 9's the compressor housing is bigger but not in a horizontal fashion that would cause your fitment issue, and 03/04 evos DO have an intercooler sprayer reservoir right where the ACD reservoir is located, so that reason is out, have you triple checked that the samco pipe is on correctly? and or aligned correctly? tilting my intake pipe(injen) was absolutely needed for it to fit the way i wanted it too

Shouldn't have an issue installing the intake pipe. Check it again.

Evo 8 have 9 turbos......

Read that statement you typed again. NO, evo 8's have evo 8 turbos. Many people get 9 turbo's because of the bigger compr housing.

Thanks after some more looking I came to that conclusion in 05 misu increased the turbine housing to 10.5 and in 06 for the 9 they increased the compressor housing size and changed the compressor wheel.
