Im about to buy an EVO, need some advice

OK so i found this evo and ive been looking for awhile. pretty much ever since i had to sell my old one (EVO VIII) duwe to finances.

this evo is a WW 04 EVO with 50K. Its got a couple of issues so i was gonna post them here and see what you guys can tell me what u think.

i only called to make an appointment at the dealership and the sales guy said that the car had some issues:

SRS light is on, he says it comes from the passenger side seatbelt that was replaced and the dealership just needs to delete the light??????

CEL is on because there is a aftermarket boost controller on it, im gonna get the code on wednesday???????

and the reverse gear is "rattling" sometimes. he says when he drove it, it was rattling, so he thinks its shaft going to the transfer case that my need some adjusting????????? this is what worries me the most.. he says no gear grinding but at the same time it sounds like the tranny is going out???????

any advice is helpful....thanks

Hve the car checked by a mechanic before buying it. Don't trust the dealer.

have the mechanic to check for any tranny crack, or any oil leak and such and such plus test drive the car make sure its going smooth enough. good luck.

sounds like the guy trying to sell it to you has no clue and is just trying to make some **** up.

Pull the CEL codes yourself while they are standing there watching you. Don't let them do it, you want pull them while the CEL is on, cause they could clear it and you would not know anything was wrong until you complete the drive cycle, which will take anywhere from a few hours to a few days. After clearing the code, go drive the car then check for pending codes when you get back. If it's throwing P0300, run away as you will pull your hair out trying to figure out why it is doing it, you might get lucky and be able to fix it, but if you where emmisions are required.... you won't pass an obd test with a pending or set P0300.

Not sure on the SRS thing.

The tranny rattle is probably the decel noise so famous on VIII's, either that or he does not know what he is hearing, could be the transfer case on it's way out... that would sound like a tornado siren. Buzzing and rattling, especially on decel, would be the decel noise.

i have a trade in, which im hoping to get at least 6-7 grand, which would leave me buying the car for $9919. if its the transfer case or the transmission, would it be worth getting the car and getting a new transmission or transfer case??? i called around and a new tranny could range from 4-5 grand, which would still leave me around 15 grand for a 04 evo.
opinions?

i agree with everyone else..... this sales guy is talkin out of his pooper.!
get the car checked out by a mechanic- even better and import shop--- even better, a speed shop that does evos.

or tell the sales guy you want a copy of the u.c.i. used car inspection.
if its a dealer they will have on.
if its a used car lot........ prollly not.

even though if that bodys in great condition. that price isnt too bad. mybe post some pics .. ?

im sorry, im under the impression that you will fix whatevers wrong with the car, if you end up having to pay someone to do it, then you must find out what EXACTLY is wrong with the car..............and if you know specifics- then you use that as bargaining chips

or else walk away from the car----------- theres tons more floating around. check here on evom

i would not get the car unless the dealer is going to fix everything if not i would just look elsewhere no point in being in debt to the car and not even put any miles on it really trying to fix massive issues

I don't think I'd do it if it's going to be a money hole. $17-18K + $5K means you could get a better car. If you think you're going to mod the hell out of it and want to upgrade/replace the tranny and transfer case you can try http://www.sheptrans.com/ . Their prices are pretty reasonable but you need to ship it to them. Out of my league...at least for now.
