You can get an 8 in the $16-$19k range with low miles and low mods.

Road in a friends colbalt ss that has a bunch of bolt ons and it was pretty fast. The thing I didn't like was the 3.5" exhaust was so loud in the car it would drive me crazy on long drives. Also with the solid motor and tranny mounts he put in to stop the wheel hop the thing rattled like hell. His change in the cup holder danced around at idle LOL. My stock IX is faster, bigger inside( my head hit the ceiling) and has a better ride. I was worried the evo would suck on long drives but its really very comfortable.

400whp sounds pretty tough to put down to the pavement off the line in that car. But highway pulls would be nice in that car

i traded my 270whp cobalt ss/sc in 2 months ago for a stock 2005 evo 8. Mods on the cobalt were 60lb injectors, header, 3" dp w/cat,, slp catback, injen cai, 2.7" s/c pulley, solid motor mount, dyno tune. Test drove the evo and by far a better drive than my cobalt. Paid 18k for the evo and it had 40,000 miles on it. Already have about 300whp with just a few mods. B4 you seriously mod cobalts you have to buy axles and a new clutch

modding FWD cars for big power isn't worth it to me. power is useless without traction. as everybody in here has said, with all the money you spent so far if you put that into an EVO you'd easily be pushing over 500hp, and be able to use it all instead of just roasting tires and snapping axles.

You can pick up a SC SS for much cheaper than an Evo though. Even with his mods he most likely spent way less than the cost of a decent Evo for a car that is unarguably fun to drive. I love AWD too, but Cobalts have proven that they have plenty of potential and bang for the buck.

Yeah it seems like a lot of people aren't taking into account the fact that Cobalt SS TCs can be bought for $15k new right now. Get a used SC and you're really not paying a whole lot for a hell of a fun car.

Same with neon SRT4 -- get a used one for $10-12k and you're already hanging with Evo X from a roll, hanging with Evo IXs with a couple of bolt ons.
