Cobalt SS here! OH no
Trust me, I thought I was done with the import/mod/tuner/boy racer crowd. And then I just missed it way too damn much.I got beaten by an '08 SS at the Autocross this weekend. They were DS too... However that car is fairly well set up for DS, the driver has been doing autocross for awhile and I haven't done autocross for 4 years, but still, I think they beat me by a good second or two.
That very same car is one I instructed in on the actual track, and they certainly are quick cars (dunno about the SC'd ones, never driven one of them). To me it felt like a baby cousin to the Evo/STi. Not as raw and quick and nimble etc, but definitely capable, certainly didn't feel all that FWD.
I agree the Speed3 would be the top of my list of FWD cars (almost got one instead of this current car). I test drove a Cobalt SS, a few Xs, a Speed3, an '09 WRX and a few STis when I was looking at getting back into the tuner world. The Speed3 wasn't all that much better than the Cobalt, but used for 13-15k wouldn't be bad at all (though I didnt' see any at that price). In the end, I couldn't buy a car that was FWD (I notice it too much, even when it isn't that noticable, like on the MS3, C-SS, and Mini-S [which I also temporarily looked at, but it was too expensive for what it was]) so I stuck with AWD, but the other cars were definitely capable, like I said.
Man I been reading on this forum for a while (never really posted) but I have to say some of you Evo ppl can be real a$$holes sometimes. The cobolt guy came to this forum and was just introducing himself with no threats or offensive remarks, and you call his car garbage, and tell him to leave the forum. Last I checked this is a place for ppl to make friends who enjoy the same hobby and interests. And to cobaltboi318, welcome to the forum don't pay attention to some of the ignorant ppl on here(there are a few).
)
I'm not sure about the others, but the little cobalt isn't threating me!
to the OP, nice ride for 19, and you seem to be going the right route for your age. That 14 year old that was mentioned was too much.
I was in a Dodge Aries [special] K car at 19, and there was some heater core leak so the trunk was full of 1.5 gallon apple juice containers for water. For context, see the following: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twkIdxgS0lo
No joke, I traded that POS in for $200 when I got my Integra.

I'm sure that's a fun car. I like the idea of a 2900lb car with 340hp. That's cool it's got a USB port on the factory stereo. You'll probably go through a set of front tires every six months. If there were such thing as rolling start quarter miles, that thing would take out exotics
Welcome to the site man. I traded in my 05 SS/SC for my Evo IX, so I'm kinda familiar with the car. It was always much underrated in my opinion, but wasnt a fan of the FWD and needed 4 doors so got into an Evo.
Have you seen one in person? It's like every gauge you could ever want in your car, built in to a nice little LCD monitor, from the factory! Would save a lot of ugly gauge pods if more companies would do something like that.
