Car On Mountains

I was wondering if I take this car in British Columbia where there are a lot of mountains (some people may know of this who live in BC) will it be bad for the engine? Will it make the engine weaker in anyway since it has to use a lot of power to climb the mountain roads?

Let me know thanks!

no, you just lose about 3% of your power for every 1000 feet in elevation above sea level, so it will feel down on power, but it will be fine (I grew up in Colorado and now live in Utah, and driven over 10,000 + foot mountain passes) As soon as you come down in elevation the power comes back, no damage.

ah ok, because someone told me if I take my car up there that the engine will start to ware off and after about 3 trips to BC the car will die out.

May i know why it looses 3% of the power while its so high? Thanks!

Less oxygen. Your car will be fine, you'll just have less power at higher altutude(s).

Someone just said that once you take it to the mountains (which is a 11 hour drive) the engine will ware off and wont be able to make those same heights again.

Why would it loose power with a Turbo ?? I would think the waste gate would handle this issue and maintain the same boost.

I drive in the mountains 4000-9000 ft all the time and feel that this is where the turbo really "shines". This car was made for the mountains in my opinion.

As long as the engine does not overheat it is not a problem.

Wow really? I guess for what you wear out going up hill (stress)you get back coming back down (less stress), so it would be a wash? Pls think thru what folks say--if what you say is true then everyone in BC would buy new cars a couple of times a year ( 3+ trips a year thru the mountains)? Pls!. Not trying to beat on you but listen to what is said and call BS when you hear it. Surely all this sounds like BS? Kind of the left handed monkey wrench? Maybe not...

I don't know who told you that, but do you really believe that cars are that fragile? They over engineer cars for a reason, to handle all the stupid **** that idiot drivers do to them. So I somehow doubt that slightly less oxygen will damage the car (unless your driving on the summit of everest).

No.

Punch that person for being so stupid. That makes absolutely zero sense whatsoever.

you probably have no idea how hard a car is tested before actual production was put into. who would make an engine that doesn't last up in the mountains? com'on already. If my car has possibility of breaking down in high altitude mountains and my car actually breaks down, mitsubishi will be in big trouble.

Bahaha this is one of the dumbest things I've ever read. I take my car to Jasper on a regular basis, the small performance loss is not even noticeable. Whoever told you that needs a good slap upside the head.
