Mod Questions- Evolution VIII

Picked up an 05 Evo VIII not to long ago and I'm getting into some modding. I picked up a full intake from Perrin and was planning on picking up there full 3" exhaust as well.

My question, is on gauges. I'm not really a fan of having a bunch of gauges in the car and would only like to really have one gauge, two if necessary.

I'm going to end up with a boost gauge and a wideband but do I really need a wideband if I won't be doing any type of tuning? I don't have the knowledge to do it so it'll be tuned at a local shop. Or is it definitely worth the extra 200 bucks?

It's my DD so I'm trying to keep mods to a minimum while still making the car quick.

Mods I'm planning on- full air intake, 3" exhaust, bov, & boost controller.

Down the line I'm planning on a Perrin FMIC and possibly a IX turbo.

Would an oil pressure gauge be more useful then a wideband? I only want to put two gauges in the car- using the steering wheel cover pod. I'm just not a fan of having alot of gauges in the car. Do most guys go with electrical or mechanical gauges for the oil pressure?

ok please dont be stupid about this you need at least

wideband
boost
oil

so you can see whats going on with the car. doing mods and having at least no general ideal that your running extremely lean could cost you a engine. Get the triple apiller run those gauges and be happy you dont have to have a volt gauge tach guage etc. i would say those 3gauges above at min level if your going to mod. and btw if 200 is to much to spend for you then you bought the wrong car. majority of major mods are gonna be over 500 get used to that

if your not tuning the car, dont get a wideband
you dont need a oil pressure gauge either, the car has the light that will come on on the dash when oil pressure drops

Honestly, from DD'ing my Evo too, all you really need is the boost gauge to know what you're running. It's how I found out that the vacuum lines on my car were screwed and that I was completely missing a boost solenoid.

A wideband is nice to have to know what you're running. It's how I found out there was a hole somewhere in the downpipe that I completely missed.

Oil pressure gauge, not necessary. You'll have a little light that'll come up in the dash if something was wrong.

By that time, you will be tearing down the engine and replacing rod and main bearings.

An oil pressure guage (a good electronic one) is one of the most important instruments you can use. Get it and a boost guage as minimum.

take the bov off your list...completely unnecessary...you don't need anymore than a boost gauge in reality either

this..i only have a boost gauge in my car and when i feel the need to check the air fuel ratio, i just log it through a data cable instead of watching the numbers on the steering column. if your air fuel ratio is way off then you need a better tune because it shouldnt change much at all from day to day
