Which O2 Housing to choose!!?? and What mods to do next?
Hi guys,
I need some advice and opinions on which O2 Dump Housing to go with for my IX.
And what mods I should do next...
Atm my car is fitted (engine wise) with:
- HKS Racing Suction Reloaded Kit (Metal intake pipe and HKS Mushroom pod foam filter) - http://www.nengun.com/hks/racing-suction-kit-reloaded
- Tomei Expreme kit (2.56" Inner Diameter O2 housing and down pipe)
http://www.tomei-p.co.jp/inf/pdf/65_ae_Letter.pdf
- Hi-flow 100 cell 3" stainless cat
- Trust/GReddy Power Extreme Ti-R Cat-back Exhaust (Pipe 80mm. Tail 115mm)
http://www.nengun.com/trust-greddy/power-extreme-ti-r
- Walbro 255
- Flash tune (not yet tuned for this current setup but a similar setup on a friends IX)
DYNO'D at 280HP atw (with these current mods) at roughly 19psi tapering down to 17psi.
I want to change my exhaust slightly (O2 and down pipe), fit an aftermarket LICP, install an EBC, then get a retune done specifically for my car.
I have the following parts to go on before the retune:
- ETS Version 2 LICP http://www.extremeturbosystems.com/M...duct_info.html
- 3" TurboXS Stainless Down Pipe http://www.turboxs.com.au/index.php?...186&Itemid=188
- HKS EVC 5/6 boost controller http://www.nengun.com/hks/evc-v
- Apexi Exhaust Control Valve http://www.nengun.com/apexi/exhaust-control-valve
I want to change to an O2 Dump when I change to the TurboXS 3" down pipe.
Currently trying to decide between these 3 O2 Dumps:
- Shearer O2 Dump Housing https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-released.html
- MAPerformance O2 Dump Housing https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ve...rformance.html
- JM Fabrications O2 Dump http://www.jmfabrications.com/site/i...mart&Itemid=58
I would prefer if the above O2 Dumps fitted with my TurboXS 3" down pipe, and ETS V2 LICP to save me having to sell them and find other parts that will fit up...
I'm not sure which O2 dumps work with the donut flange on my down pipe though, as the Shearer seems to have a flat flange for the down pipe...
But worse comes to worse I'll sell the down pipe if I have to to get the best O2 Dump.
Any advice and opinions on what mods I should do next and which O2 dump to go with would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Not too keen on EPM after all the reading I've been doing.. Prefer those ones I mentioned already. Which option did you end up going with?? The Shearer? And what down pipe and LICP do you have?
Thanks man
Thanks man
The Shearer looks to have a flat flange for the down pipe where as my TurboXS down pipe uses a donut type flange made to bolt up to the stock O2 housing.. Can anyone confirm this? Is there any way around this?
Will I have to get a different down pipe in order to run this O2 Dump?
I have however confirmed the Shearer will work with my ETS V2 LICP...

Hey David, do you think an ext. wastegate with the stocker is a better option than the dump?
My friend did a similar setup but with a FP Green instead of the stocker, made 370 @ 21psi, all pump gas, boost holds a mo_fo all the way up tp rev limit.
You asked me what I "think". It's more than an opinion or what I think. We built the first 02 dump for the EVO in '03 I'd guess. I still have the flanges left for building them. Beat my head against the wall over the project but in the end went back to the stock ported housing. Then the SS housings came and found those actually worked. I also built housing with a Tial gate on them for the stock turbo and then a dump tube, found the same thing, they did not work well.
Let's not talk about the "upper right corner" which is what I call a dyno graph that has nothing going for it but "peak power" in the top end. Look at the entire graph and unless there's some BS going on with the testing or a problem with the car you are going to find the stock housing or the SS housing like we sell are the best.
Exceptions to this, a car with a SUPER restrictive exhaust on it may benefit from a dump tube as it frees up exhaust flow. A car that had a wastegate actuator rod too lose to begin with and then it was tightened up tight for the testing of the dump housing will show benefits.
Other than that I laugh at the graphs I see posted, myself and three other shops I trust have gone through the testing all with the same results.
If you want the best curve, boost control, power use a single port 10.5 housing with a good re-circulating 02 housing.
I've had 3 customers in the last 6 weeks come in for tunes with crappy boost control and poor performance, all three changed their external dump housings back out to their old 02 housings or bought new and couldn't believe the difference.
A 4" round exit hole does not flow well going into a 1-5/8" piece of tubing.
Trent built himself a custom housing, 3" 02 housing, dumped. He heard me bad mouthing them and took his off, back to back testing, same deal proved what I was talking about, even to one of my own employees, I didn't even know he had built it. Used the parts we had from 2003 that he found in the cabinet to do it.
As far as I am concerned they are BS products.

I love the sound of this piece of peripheral , however throughput is paramont with my Evo. As soon as I dyno, the results will be posted then I can make my own personal assessment from the two o2's.

Interesting data, and I tend to believe you on this Dave. So this begs the question...are the guys buying these getting ripped off? There are probably certain setups that benefit from these. I think most-wanted said it worked for him and his high power setup. One thing for certain its good for scaring the crap outta old ladies on the sidewalk

Its funny that I saw this thread. I personally went back and forth for weeks on whether I should pick up a standard o2 housing downpipe for my Evo X or get the external dump. After speaking to a few well known and respected tuners I decided to opt out. Thanks again for offering your insight David as it is greatly appreciated.
