Decisions, Decisions, Decisions.......

I joined this fourm and LS2 GTO fourms to get some insight on the evos and gtos. I love both cars, more of a V8 fan but I keep reading, reading, youtubing, googling specs and issues with both these cars. Just thought I'd post up a message asking anybody with any special info on the evo's to say so. still in Iraq trying to make up my mind on another project car. as far as overall, I'm really feeling the Evo IX MR, not a big fan of the X. VIII's are good looking as well, I like that body style and of course fully loaded

guess I'm asking anyone to convince me, why to buy an evo?

awd, plenty of stock potential, acd, looks that kill. The evo is a replacement for displacement. Pulls on super cars all the time. If you decide to go evo, just remember that the MR has a 6 speed that is known to handle only about 500hp. The 5 speed on the RS, GSR, and SE editions tend to be a lot stronger, more in the 700hp to 1000hp range. So it really depends if you plan to mod heavily or lightly. If you want the top of the line best stock looks and for the evo, go SE or MR with the SE package. Finally, 2006 was the first year mitsubishi introduced mivec, so if u want variable valve timing go for that year, aka evo IX.

^You forgot one important thing: the Evo isn't a pontiac! IMO you have to at least do the Holden Monaro external conversion to make the GTO start to even look appealing.

I own an evo and right now I'm deployed to the UAE. We have GTOs as chase cars here. I have driven them on a regular basis and there's no way the GTO is in the same class as an evo. Looks terrible, feels a lot slower, and it's always breaking down. I guess I am partial because I own one but I would never own a GTO, even if someone gave it to me. Just feels like it's going to break all the time. Some people own GTOs and love them but in my experiences I'd never pay for one. I wouldn't even own one if someone gave one to me, I'd trade it off and get an STI or another evo or something. Just my $.02.

Depending on your money, I would maybe drive a IX and then see if you can find a G8 GXP and compare. The G8 GXP at least looks pretty good compared to the GTO and has the LS3 in it..

However, I love my IX SE and what it can do. I dd it and I know I barely scratch the surface of it's performance potential and that's with no mods except a short shifter..

alright thanks for comments guys, I see a great community here, very helpful...yeah I think I like the MR cause its a 6-speed but I don't know nearly what u guys do about these cars. I said I was intrested in MR cause I know it comes loaded. thats what I want, something with leather, power windows/sunroof. and I'm not looking to throw 20grand in the engine, more like 10 At the most.

and about the GTO, I love torque and power. GTO has that, me loving V8's and Pontiacs, its my next best choice! Real convincing on an Evo IX.

You are comparing apples and oranges. Both cars are so different.

I can appreciate displacement and V-8 rumble, but i ended up getting an evo myself. I love the car. The only thing that really sucks is the small gas tank, and lack of range. I can only go about 215-230 miles on a tank of gas after my tune.

Good luck with the tough decision!

The GTO is a torque beast for sure. But the Evo is a better handling car.

FYI - there is no sunroof on the MR. Also, you can do a lot to an EVO for $10k! At ~$4.5k I'm right under 400whp and 360lb-ft. I'm about to add another batch of mods that will put me at about $8k and likely 500whp (or more) and hopefully 450lb-ft. I will need a clutch, though, which will put me closer to that $10k mark!

If you plan on dragging the car you will likely want to go with a 5-spd eventually too as most people start having issues with some of the gears on the 6-spd when putting bigger power down (same housing, 1 extra gear, so they had to skimp a bit to get everything in there). Good luck!
