New or Used

Hey guys.. I've come close to buying evo's a few times. But it never happened for some personal reasons.

Just from experiences from you guys. Would you go for VIII or IX (obv. used) or a new X?? I am going to mod it. Thats an obv. for me. But I am gonna daily it for a while. Until I decide if I wanna track it down the road or get something else to track..

Any help??

Personally I would never buy a used car, Especially an evo. You never know what kind of beating the engine/drivetrain have faced, nor what kind of special stains are embedded into your seats. Thats just me though.

Meh, I buy used. Cars can be fixed if broken. Not a big deal.

If you buy private party from someone who is over 30 (over 35 is even better) and has records... you should probably be ok as long as it passes a compression / leak down test and has not been in an accident. You will save $$$ this way and might even get some nice mods in the deal.

Buy a new one bro if you want either a VIII, IX, or X b/c of all the abuse a used Evo could've gone thru. But if you want a VIII or IX, i guess you dont have a choise other than used...

People crying about buying new like money comes off trees, you think if somebody wants a supra and they are set on a supra they can buy new, if he wants a certain year and its used so be it to many trust fund babys in this *****.

They are right...buy new unless it is from someone who is over 35 and preferably female. I decided I had to buy my 2008 MR new for that reason...I'm 47 years old and female...that car is babied (it's my third child)...no racing, just love.

It's true that most women will drive the car less aggressively than men, however my concern would be whether or not the woman was savvy with maintenance as well as knowing how to use the clutch properly.

Am I being a stereotypical male chauvinist? If so... sorry...

Ya. I think if I can find one I like used, I need to be careful. I want it as close to stock if I can't get 100% stock. And I don't mean heavily modded and put back to stock. I might be better off with the mods on the car if thats the case. But what are new evo's going for? I mean if the difference in price isn't all that much. Then new wouldn't even make sense.. I almost had an VIII last year for like 14k. But the idiot at the dealer was holding it for his boy and made excuses as to why he couldn't sell me it.

I'd strongly recommend looking for a IX that hasn't been abused yet. The second you mod a X your warranty is gone, so why pay for a new car/warranty? I wish I had done two things a couple months ago when I bought this car: #1 didn't trade in my used BMW since I got a rotten deal and it would have been a great second car, #2 that I'd gotten a IX instead.

There are a lot more aftermarket turbos and parts available for VIII's and IX's as compared to the X and you can find used performance parts that people are pulling off to take their car back to stock (to trade them in). Nobody is trading in their X's yet so all your parts will be brand new and expensive...I've dropped $8k on parts alone and I'm just getting started.

Go for a IX over the VIII not only due to age...the IX has MIVEC...

Mivec is not all that and a bag of chips seriously i get real tired of hearing that excuse. you can put cams in the evo 8 and turbo upgrade then what. Ok and you save way more money. BUYING USED IS PERFECT.

1. dont have to worry about void any stupid warranty. if you buy a X you are dumb to put one mod on it. keep warranty as long as you can

2. Will save way more money in the long run. you can pick up evo 8s for like 14k. the extra money you can use for mods or to fix things that are broke or USE it for bills or something

3. If something is broke persay you going to fix it anyways. The aftermarket for the evo 8,9 is very strong if something is broke replace it with aftermarket parts for way cheaper and stronger part. Get the seats cleaned or replace as somebody mentioned above

4. IF you do a full build like im doing does not matter going to have 0 miles and everything will be new etc. then from that point on its what you do to it not pervious owner and you will kill a evo X.

People get hung up on this topic like buying a new X solves everything i sugguest you go look at evo X owners complaints about the car. Start with parts Rattling A pillers falling off, seat coming apart how about the prices coming way down and trade in valve sell value being low etc. Not like its built in a gold mine. New does not mean better please

if your going to mod I'd buy used viii or ix, you will spend money on new clutch, brakes but still save you money in compared to the x

go for the 9, get the benefit of the MIVEC and better turbo than the 8, a little better than the x in straight line speed, and a little lighter, and should be a little cheaper than an x used...
