I love the car. I was just stating that it is stock for people who might have thought that the improper torque specs was my fault as a result of moding. What is a dog box trans?

It's a racing transmission where you don't have to push in the clutch to change gear. And unless I'm mistaken, it also has straight-cut gears which make one hell of a whine.

I think some people need to turn their music down or their ear pieces up. This car (Evo IX) makes noises. A lot of them. It doesn't bother me but that's because I know I didn't buy a Lexus. It is no worse than any typical sport compact with a decent suspension, though.

Like Chaotic said, a lot depends on tires.

I know what typical noises are.
I had a problem with my car the dealership confirmed that and fixed it.

If you're ever in Upstate, NY, you're welcome to take a ride in my Evo with the stereo off, windows closed, hold your breath and listen for squeaks, rattles, or any other non-driving related noises. My RS was like that, too. Both had/have factory suspensions, KYB on the RS and Bilstein on the SE.

Sorry, wasn't referring to you ovekcots. It sounds like you had an actual issue and maybe that is my problem too.

I still have a hard time believing it, FJF, but I won't be making it to upstate anytime soon. I swear I hear my fuggin' windshield rattling. That or it's the entire dash piece.

You've probably never met anyone as sensitive to squeaks and rattles as yours truly. Your car is much more heavily modded than mine and it went though more changes. I'm willing to bet that other things differ, as well. I bought the car to keep. Everything happens with that in mind. Having owned two Evos, both of which were tight as a drum, I can't blame the car. I've been driving for 30 years and I've made mistakes that allowed other cars to turn into rattle traps. I like to think that something was learned from the experience.

You're welcome to shoot STM folks a note and ask about my Evo. They're the only folks who've sat behind the wheel besides myself. Last year, after the car kissed a guardrail, Cory Bowers from STM went though every nut and bolt. As a result, it's just as tight now as it was before the mishap. Not even an isolated clunk.

You want to hear another good one? My car's paint is perfect, no issues at all. Of course, I take care of it religiously and I took the time to learn how to do it, but why should that matter when Mitsubishi paint "sucks?" I've posted pics. See if your paint looks like that. Gauged by the exterior, just imagine the car's mechanical and structural integrity.

The point to keep in mind is that not all Evos are the same. Some were treated, maintained, and not modded within an inch of their lives to keep the integrity of the machine over all else, and many other weren't. My car literally looks, feels, and drives (all of the time) better now than the day it was delivered. I'm not sure how many can say the same.

BTW, I recall coming across a fix for a rattling windshield a couple of years ago. You may want to run a quick search. Good luck.

Edit: OP, perhaps this was covered and I missed it. As I understand, your car is completely stock. It's not a bad idea to re-torque everything to spec - nut & bolt, if you will. It can make for a noticeable difference. Too, if you isolate a given noise, there's usually a fix. For example, my glovebox developed a rattle at ~10,000 miles. It took less than a few minutes to fix. Though I haven't had this issue with an Evo, sometimes interior panels squeak. There's a fix for that, too. I guess I'm trying to say that if you want to have a very tight car, spending a little time can't hurt.

Well, I've seen your borderline **** attention to detail elsewhere (which side of the border is the question, haha!), so I guess I'll take your word for it in this case too.

I actually have no complaints about my paint and I don't take care of it that well, to be brutally honest with myself. I don't have a rock chip problem (there are a few of course, but the AS helps), and I guess my only complaint is toward my wife for parking my truck awkwardly which resulted in me rubbing the rear quarter panel on my Evo in the middle of the night a couple years back. Yes, my fault.

I don't see what other choice you have. Here's another 2-Evo owner with no rattles in either car:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/7662699-post9.html

Like I said earlier, not all Evos are the same; they haven't been treated identically during their lives. This board, filled with recently bought used Evos, is case and point. Even when modded, these cars can remain factory-tight, but the degree of difficulty grows exponentially with every change, especially when the work is performed by the car's owner. With that in mind, I'd be willing to put money on 50% of the cars on this forum being junk'd/parted-out/wrecked/not running within the next 5 years.
