Buying an Evolution with issues

I recently went to Indiana looking at an evo. Looking the car over, the front right tire was completley bald, and front left with little tread. The car pulled to the right, I thought possibly just alignment issues. When I got back to the dealership I was looking it over again, and saw towards the front rightside there was oil leaking, what looked like to me from the turbo? If anyone could explain these issues and tell me if they are easily fixed that would be great. Thanks.

Pulling to one side can be alignment but if it is out of alignment because something is literally bent or broken, maybe from an accident. Then things can get tricky/expensive to fix.

Leaking oil from the turbo is not good. I guess its could be as simple as one of the oil lines running to the turbo could be leaking but why? Swapped back to stock turbo and it was done quickly to return to stock and trade in? What else was on the car before? Does it still have a previous tune for a completely different setup etc etc.

Try to find out as much as possible about this car.

Good luck!

The car was running a bigger turbo(stock back on), and was in a minor front end collision. Otherwise it looks great. On the carfax the last two owners only had it four months each. So I'm hesitant to buy it.

Don't do it. Don't buy an Evo that you know has problems.

I wouldn't buy it unless it cheap so you can fix the issues!

It would have been sold to me for 13.5 without taxes. Here is the link, they replaced the pictures of the car with default ones... not sure why. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false

I would buy it only because I know how to inspect and fix cars that were in collisions. If you know someone who does as well, go for it. Don't do it otherwise.

Saw a car almost identical to this in Reno a few months back. It had CA plates.

I'd have to agree with the general sentiment on here. I would only buy it if you were willing and able to do the work on it. You might be able to get it for a little cheaper but it might cost you more in very short order due to fixing issues, especially if you end up paying for labor.

if you never work on cars before, dont do it. not knowing the problem might cause you alot of money in the future. take your time and find a clean evo, trust me you'll save yourself alot of headache. GL

to be honest that thing looks like junk.. Why go through the headache of mysteries. yes its cheap but its cheap for a reason. I was in the same boat as you a couple months back before i bought my evo... Another question is why buy a car that has been molested. Its like used goods and you really dont know what the previous owners have done to it inside and out. if you cant afford to buy an evo just dont do it. save yourself the headache

It could be something as simple as a bad inner tie rod, all the way up to frame damage, does it say anywhere on the carfax that it was in a front end accident? id take it to a body shop and see if the frame is straight. if it is its something dumb and bolt off bolt on and realign, as far as the oil leak, check the pan see if its the pan gasket, if the pan is good, check the oil line connections from the turbo to the pan, my best guess is its one of those two. since the car was previously fairly modded i would check the compression on the motor and see if thats good, and find out if 60k maint was done. i noticed the previous owner installed a "stage 3 aftermarket clutch" if i were you id be checking for the whine of death and make sure the transfer case is alright. i think best case scenario: the frame is straight, oil line leak, and transfer case is whine free, i would still complain about the defects and short comings of the car to the dealership and try and offer them 12 max. thats just my opinion though, if your not that mechanically inclined id look elsewhere.
