how to install mr gauges?
i have an 05 evo ssl and it seems the previous owner half way installed the factory triple gauge cluster on the dash which i believe is stock on an mr .its the mitsu oil pres, volts, and boost. i got the boost and volts hooked up but not the oil. does anyone know of a way to hook this up? do i need a sender or is there some wiring to tap into?a diagram would be nice
I was thinking of buying a used set of MR OEM gauges however it does not come with any sensors just the gauges. How hard is it to get this things to work? There is also another one for sale complete with the harness but no sensors. I have an 04 RS does it have provisions where I could just plug the gauges and they would work? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Thanks,
There is a temperature sensor integrated into the oil drain plug for the gauges. This comes with the MR. I'm not sure if you can purchase it separately (I'd bet you can) or if there are aftermarket alternatives. That is the only non-standard connection to the gauges as the rest are just power, ground, and accessory lines. Fairly straightforward to wire up. The wiring that comes stock plugs into an intermediate harness that goes between the car's wiring harness and the stock head units, but you can just as easily just splice in.
edit - I said "This comes with the MR" which is true because the MR comes with the gauge kit, but I should have said the drain plug w/sensor comes with the gauge kit to be less confusing.

I'm gonna ask on this thread because I don't want to create another and it was never answered.
The red wires are power, black ground...? wtf are the yellow ones for then? where can I hook these up? can't believe I couldn't find this asked anywhere on this forum.

If I recall correctly red is accessory power, yellow is for when the headlights are on (for the gauge bulbs), and black is ground.
You can tap into the stereo harness for these. That's where they connect stock via a patch harness that goes in between the main wiring harness and the stereo.

thanks for the response! it's been a few weeks lol. unfortunately my car is still out for the count but it was another project I was gonna take on. the previous owner never finished the job, only the turbo one is hooked up, but only the vacuum line. radio harness color coded? as in can I just match the wire colors? I prefer to do this instead of running it all to the fuse box.
I don't recall if the harness matches those colors for wiring. The patch harness that comes with the gauges is ALL white, wires and all. Also, when I installed an aftermarket stereo I used a patch harness for Pioneer head units so I then also didn't have to worry about understanding what wire was what.
I'm sure if you did a search you could find a stereo wiring harness pinout diagram on here.
