Would you bring your EVO Cross Country?

Basically; How much do you trust your evo's reliability with the mods it has...and would you drive it cross country...

Just list the mods you have and if you trust your EVO enough to go cross country with it. I.E - NYC - CALI

Mods:
Injen intercooler piping and intake
255 FP
Test pipe
Cat back exhaust
Street Tune

Maintence
Brand new OEM mitsu sparkplugs
Gear oil changed; front and rear diff

I don't know if i would take my evo...because it has some issues going on now that can potentially leave me stranded in the middle of no where.

-spongey clutch pedal (even after i bled the system)
-erractic idle issues (a/f dips down lean and rises back up. intermittent problem)
-can't fill gas without hold pump half way or it will click off.
-motor shakes alittle when idling (normal?) even after tune?

I need your guys input because i might be driving to cali this winter and i don't know if i should take the EVO or not... thanks!

i drove my car up and down the east coast more than 10 times.
FL to NY and back, sometimes a weekend trip.
it's just like any other car. take care of it and it'll take care of you.
i have the equivalent to buschur stage 4 with aem ems if that matters.
however, i'm the only owner so i know it taken care of.

What is the longest trip you've taken in the car?

Another thing to be careful of (not related to the car) is the time of year you are going. If it is in winter time, definitely take the southern route. The passes in Colorado and some other mountain states could be treacherous/closed...

Good luck! I also drove cross country from NJ to California. Was a fun trip in my G coupe...but not sure I'd wanna do it again

thats the best thing about owning an evo.. I know I can go home right now, jump into the car and itll start right up and take me to wherever I want to go.. and it makes right around 400 still on bone stock motor, turbo, clutch and all... got to love an evo. BTW my longest trip was 13 straight hours only stopped for gas

I don't think the mods will get you in any trouble, but perhaps you should get your car looked at before taking the trip?

I would make sure I had a good alarm system. Maybe some kind of hidden ignition disabling device?

Get the car looked at and you will be fine. Why did you buy the car if you are not going to take it where ever you go?

Drove mine 900 miles the night I bought it. I think its actually quite a reliable car... the 4G63 is a tough motor to pop.

Definitely get those issues looked at OP (issues 1, 2, and 4 anyway), maintain the car well (oil and other fluids, belts, etc.) and you should be good to go. Also, you should run good all season tires at least, possibly leaning toward winter tires depending on the route. You might also want to look into taping up the front to minimize road rash from the long drive.

To echo what the fellahs have said here, I think you will be just fine. I'm in the Army and I've driven my EVO from Fort Lewis, Washington (located by Tacoma) to Austin, Texas and back. My only recommendation is to take advantage of the lack of traffic by getting your boost on!

i've gone from cali to mississippi.. then mississippi to cali and back to mississipp 2 weeks later. Once i get back from deployment in febuary, im driving to cali and back again, except i'll be equipped with a BBK FULL and full boltons on the way to cali, and robispec'd and caged out on the way back to mississippi.. then in december 2010 im doing the trip again, then after next deployment doin it again, then doin it once more when i get out she didnt have a single problem each time, except a ticket or 2.. and even drove 130 mph for 200 straight miles in the middle of nowhere in texas on I10.... no problems.. and several top speed bursts on the way... this car can withstand anything.

I wold drive it across the US, might need some tires first though. I have 50K miles I have personally put on the car, so why would I not go 3K miles. The car has never left me, unlike my Eclipse GSX which has left me 3 times in one month. I don't think Evo's are unreleiable at all, and the mods you have are minor, not far off of being stock. If you had a 35R with all the supporting mods, then I would have a different view on the situation.

As for your issues, the spongy pedal would be a slight concern, but how much shifting are you really going to do? And you checked the system, so it's probably okay. As for the erractic idle issues, mine does that too and it has since I have owned it. Why, I have no idea and as long as it continues doing it that means the car is running, lol.

As for the motor shaking, you might want to make sure your balance shaft belt is the problem. Was your belts ever changed?
