New to the forums, considering an Evo 9
Hello everyone,
So I've been browsing around the forums for a while now, and I'm hoping to trade in my current car (07 Civic Si) for a 2006 Evo IX. I just had a few questions before I jump the gun.
1) How reliable is that car? Coming from a Honda, it needs to be able to last me a long time... can it do that for me? Especially if it's going to be a DD?
2) I don't plan on changing out too much of the engine mods or mess with the turbo... will I run into future problems with the turbo as far as tuning goes? In other words, what's the maintenance going to be like?
I guess those are my biggest concerns. Aside from losing some MPG, I don't really have any other issues. I'm currently looking at an Evo that has ~17,0XX miles on it for around 26K from a dealership. Since my car is currently paid off, I want to trade for the Evo and hope for low $200 payments.
I would greatly appreciate any answers and advice fellow members can provide for me. Looking forward to possibly becoming part of the Evo family. Also, I appologize if this thread/post is in the wrong section.

welcome. car is reliable as long as you treat it well but don't be afraid to drive it hard. Just take care of it and it will take care of you. No clutch dumps and overreving and you should be fine. Gas mileage is decent for what the car is. Stock IX turbo can get you to 380ish whp max. Maintenance is going to be a female dog and will be much cheaper to change fluids yourself. Check out the newbie section before asking more question. Enjoy.
1) the car is as reliable as any if proper care and maintenance is performed. if it is not a mod *****, as a daily driver it is very reliable. i have had mine since 4/06, driven at 70 miles a day @ 61k so far. absolutely ZERO problems with drivability. i only have a k&n drop in. that helped IMMENSELY with fuel mileage. (stock map).
2) oil changes, $35.00, 5-6k. brake pads x 2, $140, set of tires $8-900 dollars, 60k $1400.00. most work done myself so i saved some money there. no mods other than drop in. if you can drive a clutch, the stock clutch will last hella long. mine is still original and still going strong. no launches or track time, just some high speed pulls and jaunts every now and then.
very good car in my experience. with my drop in, i went from 14/16 to 18/22 mpg. that's not to say it won't **** out on me, but has suprised me so far. good luck.

That's all I needed to know, thanks a lot to both replies! I really like to baby my cars, and like to do most work myself anyways, so I will be saving money by doing it my self. But got exactly what I wanted to hear.

-change the plugs
-change tranny,center diff and rear fluid asap seeing as the p.o probably did not.
-brakes are easy.$150 on good front pads
-change the fluid aswell
-clutch will probalby need to be done soon
-pretty good car. i miss german engineering. you getting a $15,000 car with a $15,000 drivetrain. japanese paint sucks, the car is a aluminum can. an no models have cruis control. exspect 20mpg all the time.
what are your goals with the car?nice daily? if so keep the civic.. just drove 40miles, make lower back is killing me(im 5'5 135lbs), car is amazing when its unleashed, but as a daily, i hate it.

Well my dad said no cause my car is paid off, blah blah blah. I guess I'll just supercharge my car sometime next year. =)
