I bought my Evo a year ago with 160k miles on it.. Had the dealership throw the car up on a lift and let me visually inspect it, which they were kind enough to do. Couldn't find one thing wrong with it.

Car has been great to me, only problems I've had were the clutch went out ( my fault ), and I blew the Transfer Case ( also my fault ). Other than that, the car sees 27PSI on Evo 8.5 turbo every day, constant launches, and many Auto Cross events.

Mileage is just a number.

If the car has been taken and the owner/ previous owners have done the regular maintenance any used Evo with high miles would be fine. Last I heard there are a hand full of 200+K Evos and one of which was a Evo 9. Take care of the car and it will take care of you

Thanks,
Dallin

Because that car was taking care of really well. When I bought it, I think it had 150,000 miles and the previous owner gave me a huge stack of receipts of the maintenance that was done (which I am still angry that the dealership didn't give you those because I made sure I left them with the car). BTW, you know I got like 10.5 for that car in the trade?

^^ True that. Yeah I do wish I had those receipts but oh well! Most of that stuff will be upgraded soon anyways Damn!! That's what I bought it for.

I put 180,000 miles on my 06 EVO IX MR. Autocrossed it, launched it, drove it hard every day, car was by far the most reliable I'd ever owned. No issues the entire time I owned it. The new owner now has somewhere around 195,000 miles on it and 475whp, still on stock block, tranny, TC, rear diff with zero issues. It's all about how the car was taken care of. When I sold mine with 180,000 miles it was in better shape than cars with 25,000 miles. If you can find one with a good service history, go for it. The cars are reliable. The owners aren't.

Yeah, you should have seen what all that guy replaced though. there was stuff like...
  • Owner hears a weird noise from wheels/ replaced all four wheel hubs
  • Owner says that A/C isn't that cold on a hot day/replaced compressor
Man, I think he even got the drive shaft replaced just because he got paranoid.

Glad I found it for sure! It's getting some good love though right now

The girl wants me to turn it into a straight drag car, but the car is in waaay too good of shape to strip :/

I think so too. Maybe find a not so good shape Evo for a drag car.

Search on this as there is plenty of information, but from what I understand the 1st gear is a straight cut gear, so yes a little whine is perfectly normal.
