just took an evo out for a test drive
Ok. On Sunday I cruised up and parked right in front of Miller Mits. with my shiny wrb wrx with gold prodrive p1 rims. They notice my car and tell me that they turned around a wrx in one day (they bought it for 16k and sold it for 20k!) but they WONT let me test drive an EVO until I do a credit check and start some paperwork! Jeeze.
So on Monday I drive up to Glendale Mitsubishi with my girlfriend in her Hyndai Tiberon. I ask for a test drive and it's no problem! I can't help thinking it was just because she was there.
My impressions:
I loved everything about the car except for the feel of the shifter (which was slightly ambiguous) and the clutch (which seemed kind of high and harder than my wrx). I loved that the shifter was really short though.
I know I probably need to get used to the clutch. That's true with every car. But I still wonder about the shifter. The wrx (STi shifter actually) is really notchy and I know what gear I'm in. Well, you all know your evos. What do you think? I know you can get aftermarket shifter but is the squishyness I felt due to the cable whcih I could not fix? Did you have to get used to this too?

The stock shifter is great IMO. It's extremely solid, heavier than I expected also. The lever seems to just get sucked into gear. It really helps to have some mileage on the tranny, but I'm sure a bushing kit or shift shift kit would take care of your worries if you didn't get used to it.
The one really neat thing about the Evo is that it does have a good feel when driving it, just that the shifter can be kind of vague. Still fun in the corners though....not that anyone would push it, but if you did....hehehe....
