New here. Best turbo for 500hp? so many options! HELP!
Hi Y'all.
i'm new here, looking for some help with one of my cars. you guys have the largest amount of 2.0L turbo knowledge, so i hope your willing to help!
I'm hoping I can tap the resources of this forum to point me in the proper direction here. both the knowledge base, wealth of experience.
I'm looking for the best turbo option for ~500whp (say 55lb/min-57lb/min)
I've looked at S256, GT3076R-HTA, GTK-550, Std 30R, and a precision 6031's, just to name a few.....
This power range in the market seems rather congested with many claims but vary little to substantiate them.
thats where i'm hoping the experiences of the people on here can come in.
i know there are other turbo options out there that i eaither forgot about OR have not seen.
I'm an engineer by trade so i love actual data. Compressor maps and turbine flow charts are my friends in this endeavor. however, thats not to say that this info must be had. Dyno's and Time slips rule at the end of the day.
I'd like to attain 55-57lb/min @ 2.2-2.4PR. I dont want to run a small wheel and have to kill it in order to get the flow i want. the car is pump gas toy.
as for the car, Its a Cobalt with a built 2.0L, 9.5CR, 274 cams, race ported head, ect. I can go into detail if your interested.
Thanks guys.

I've ran the S-256 and made 535 hp on E-85 30+/ boost. I now run the 6262 and so far I like the 62 much better, but havent dyno'd yet.. It will be much easier to make 500 with a 6262 on lower boost.
S-256 ran 11.3@126 I know it had a 11.1 in it for sure if I had a clutch that would let me shift faster.
Just go a lil bigger than you are thinking about because you will wish you went a lil bigger at the end of the day.. Not many ppl ever down grade because they went too big..

currently i'm running a Precision 3061RS-Boosted. good for ~60lb/min but its a bit to laggy. and "old".
i also THINK went to large on the hotside. I run it with a T4 .58AR hotside. i did this as i had to run more boost on the stock motor to make good power(484whp.414wtq) and i dident want to choke the flow. i'm pretty sure i can make 500 on a T3 flange. say .55 AR divided?
i'll need some advice on that as well.....
i love the areo of the ETT units, i just hate journal barring CHRA's.....
however, i wonder what hotside options FP might have. I just need a std T3 housing, nothing with an IG provision.
any idea what boost numbers are required for the "500-600whp results" they claim?
many people useing them?
thanks!
What are you going to use the car for? Daily driving? Drag racing? Hill climbs? Rally? AutoX? I don't know much about some of the turbos mentioned, but I do know that a GT3076r will get you there, and there isn't too much lag (a GT3071r is rated at 450, but you can get more out of it on E85 and it spools very fast). Good luck with the build! 500 HP is my goal as well.

I'll use it for some good ole fashion street runs, and it'll see the track. But i have a nasty habit of finding LSx owners on the hiway all while my rite foot gets the best of me.
its more a car i'll take out once a week, jump on a dead section of road and go a little fast in

I'm not going e-85. i have my own personal issues with it.
a GT3076R is the perennial favorite, but not necessarily the best. and the best is what i'm after.

Why don't you like E85? I had to get off of it when it started getting cold out, as the car won't start easily, but otherwise -- love the stuff (I have to drive 30 miles 1 way to fill up on it, since not many stations here ;-)
ATP has what you need:

Get some!
Edit: Oh, wait, too small of a turbo for you :P I just saw 3076 and thought it was it, but the housing is tiny ... worthless!

useing pump forces one to work harder, and optimize things more then a high octane would.
