Comming back from SUBARU

Hey everyone, my name is steve and i live in northern california. I have owned many hondas in my youth and then moved on to an evo 9 MR for a while, the tranny went and i sold it. then i got an 04 sti it was good to me but expensive to mod and maintain. i had to put my $ elsewhere at the time, now that im financially stable again im looking back into an EVO what attracts me more is the fact they are lighter and easily modified, i have seen more street evos running 10's than subarus plus i originally fell for the mean look of an evo and i love the rear wiper im planning on getting an evo 8 MR in the near future. I look forward to being a member of this forum and learning as much as i can.

Are you sure you want an MR after having tranny issues? I think a GSR would be a bit better considering you wanting to make some power.

I don't understand why everyone says the 6-speed tranny is weak when the Evo fq-360 and fq-400 British models with 366hp and 400hp stock use the 6-speed rather than the 5-speed with no issues. How is it able to handle the 400hp yet the concensus in this forum is anything over 300hp is too much for the 6-speed?

Huh? You may want to do yourself a favor and search for the big 6-speed thread. Read every page and you'll understand the reasons for the transmission failing. You'll also know whether those reasons are applicable to your situation.

It still doesn't amswer my question on why the Evo fq-400 with over 400 horsepower uses the 6-speed and not the 5-speed. Why would Mitsubishi put a tranny on a car that they know is too fragile to handle the power?

for a stock evo IXMR, the 6 speed tranny is more than enough. like you said they use it in their FQ models 360-IX MR. But modified evos in the US have more hp than UK and when used in the track, would need to be modified with additional coolers to prolong its life. the longest running evo IX MR and is tracked all the time is owned by ODUB.

well same goes for the subarus, the wrx trans are considered the class trans, they can barely hold 250hp, and doing turbo back, uppipe, and 18psi your close to that. it also really depends on how you drive the car I guess.
