Rx-8 to Evo newb
+1 i only buy my cars stock just cuz you know that guy with the mods was beating on his car not to say the other guy might as well but a stock car thats been beat on is less likely to be abused as much or hurt the motor and may still have a warranty where as the evo x might be void if he brought it to mitsu with those mods on it and thats an evo 9 MR/SE which is really rare has red stiching interior, se lip, bbs gunmetal wheels
Evo will be a daily driver. Like I said, I PM'd the previous owner of the Evo X, he is an older gentlemen who traded it in for a GTR. His previous car before the Evo was an 04 Viper. It looks fantastic, no oil leaks from what I could tell, shifted fine, clutch worked fine as well. The only issue with that certain evo is the asking price. They want too much for it. That is the reason I am thinking of buying a new 2010 model...for roughly 4k more I can get a brand new car.
id still go evo 9 they will be worth more then any evo in the future, I really did not like the evo x i was going to buy one after my gf had gotten one so we could match lol but i couldnt bring myself to do it cuz i didnt enjoy it as much as my evo 9s and i can see y he traded in his viper i had an 04 as well and they suck a$$
If you're looking for a brand new X contact South Coast Mitsubishi in CA. I may be in a X soon hopefully. I just love the way the X makes you feel inside. I DD a lot, so the extra gadget fits right into my criteria. If you're ever bored, search up HKS Evo X on youtube. Pretty inspiring. Good luck with your pick.

Guys, thanks for the advice so far! Keep it coming!
There's got to be some used Evo X's for sale w/o a French whorehouse custom interior. That's gonna be a hard car to resell if need be.
I was looking for a stock IX for several mos in 08 but all were either questionably modded and/or obviously abused. It also p'd me off that the prices for IX's were so high. I could get a NEW X w/ 0% for what people were asking for a used IX after financing. However that IX looks damned nice, real nice. The asking price reflects it.
I came from an 03 S2k so I really wanted to maintain as much of that instant reflex feeling as I could get in a sedan. The IX has more of that go-kart feel where the X is more refined. In the end, I was able to test drive a IX and a new X back to back at a dealer. If I hadn't been coming from a low, very hard riding, loud sportscar I would have bought the IX. For a DD the safer, better riding, quieter, warrantied 0% X made more sense at the time. I'm a family guy w/ kids so side impact got to be a big factor. Sadly that ruled out a IX.
After driving my X GSR for a few months, I wasn't completely happy. I missed that raw sportscar feel and low seating position, the short gear throws and instant steering response. The X is just a bigger feeling car than a IX and certainly a RX or S2K. Although the X is incredibly capable, the tossability factor is lower to me. The only sedan/coupe besides a IX or VIII that retains that feeling IMO was a Cooper S even w/ FWD.
Now after 1.5 years of ownership, the X has really, really grown on me. It's mellow when I want it to be and a screamer when called upon. The overall handling experience is superb. Just an OTS tune has made the engine come alive. The X has a modern look and feel where the IX and VIII seem pretty 90's like. It's had zero down time and it's day to day livability is spot on. The mod potential to make this car turn near super car numbers is extremely exciting and tempting.
Sorry this is so long winded, but I was in a pretty similar car shopping position as you. Hope this helps.

The forums are full of horror stories about failed clutches, nasty Mitsu dealerships etc.. Can really get you wondering if these cars are crap. You can do some searching on reliability and get a pretty good idea about it.
A lot depends on the driver IMO. I don't clutch drop so mine's good as new after almost 20k miles. I drive spirited but I don't beat on a drivetrain.
The issues I've experienced have been very minor considering this is a new model. I had all the factory reflashes as the stock 08 tune was horrid. I knew about this going in so an aftermarket tune was expected. 10's seem to have this problem rectified. There's been a few electrical recalls and an issue with fuel pump relays that only required a new updated relay. This is very important, do a search on this forum.
Stock Advans grip like crazy but are noisy and mine were toast after 10k miles-even w/no track time. There's been a few niggly crap like interior rattles but those were ez to find and fix myself. My sideskirt was loose but was fixed under warranty easily and has held up fine. That's been it so far.
My experience with reliabilty has been a serious non-issue. Starts every time, runs like a top. Actually it's been a pleasant surprise, as I was pretty skeptical about Mitsus in general. Road & Track and Edmunds had some X's for long term tests and had similar experiences with reliablity, search 'em out. It really shouldn't be a concern if you're buying new.

Thats an MR SE I believe. I would choose that all day over a ten. But if you want some more comfort features (Like Cruise Control) The X is very nice looking... Good luck! Us ohio evo owners love our cars in the snow, especially when we drive past all the RWD muscle cars in a ditch on the side of the road :\
It will 95% DD and thanks to rancornthree's posts I am almost positive I will be going with the X GSR w/SSS. Now the harder decision...buy the X I listed or spend about 5k more and buy a 2010 GSR w/SSS. I need to find out which Cali dealership is the best, I may give them a call.
