Brake Problems?

Hello everyone, well. I THINK I need to replace the brakes on my 2002 Lancer ES, but I need u guys to tell me if your Lancers were making this same sound.
First, whenever I step on the brakes lightly, at a stop sign or something like that, they squeal, but if I step on the brakes a little harder they wont squeal. The thing that bothers me though, is that sometimes when I'm parked and I'm first pulling out, I hear a squealing noise on every rotation of the wheel. I'll be driving out about 5-10 mph, and each time the wheel goes around, I"ll hear the squeak, until I get to speeds a little higher. Anyone else hear this?
The car has only 31,000 miles on it, I bought it used with 25,000, so I'm kind of surprised that it would need brakes already.
Thanks in advance for the help!

it sounds like the squeeker is trying to tell you something. I would check the pads, it does sound like you need new ones. At least it hasnt gotten to the point where even at high speeds you can hear the squeal, that has happen to me b4 and brakes were very bad.

oh ok, I'll have to check that out. Is it relatively easy to replace the brakes myself? or will I have to take it somewhere to get it done?
How many miles was your Lancer at when they went bad by the way?

My dad put mine on and it didnt look hard. If you search on here, it will tell you step by step directions on how to do it. I had like 22,000 on my lancer when i changed them. I upgraded to better rotors too and the pads werent tooooo bad. Where do you live?

I'm from Stockton, California. Its in northern Cali about an hour and a half from san francisco.
Alright then I'll have to search on that then, see if i can do it. It'd be worth it to buy any tools i might need, i'm sure I'll save in the long run. Thanks for the help. If you replaced yours at 22,000, I guess 31,000 aint too bad,

I did mine at 32k. Napa seemed the only place to get OEM quality parts w/o going through Mitsu.

First of all, 31,000 miles, if it's on stock pads, it should be the pads' problems. Mine went out at around 15,000 miles, and I'm not really a hard driver. As far as OEM quality parts go, they're not quality at all. Go to any local auto part store and just ask for pads that would fit a Lancer, any of those pads would be better than the stock one. Make sure you check for rotor wear too, if the pads were long gone, the rotor could be worn down.

Just a heads up I think napa has a lifetime warranty on the pads they sell. Ask the sales rep and keep your reciept.

Lifetime warranty on the pads is because they rip the **** out of your rotors... replace pads for 50-60 or replace rotors for a lot more than that

If you're thinking about changing the pads yourself, go for it. It was much easier than I thought. Almost self explanitory after I got the wheels off. Just make sure the pads float freely around the metal clips. If they don't they'll stick and make the same sound you're getting right now (like my Porterfield pads did).

I may be getting some AXIS pads soon, I'm in Modesto. If you feel like driving over here we can do both cars at the same time.
