Possibly an Evo 9 RS, Need opinions.
Possibly an Evo 9 RS, Need opinions.
Hey guys, so I have stumbled upon an evo 9 RS with 75k miles and your basic bolt ons. I have talked to the guy about the car and we are working around 15k for the car. The car doesn't have A/C, and 3rd gear grinds a little bit. I really need an a/c system because here in NM it gets sooo hot.
I was just looking for a second opinion about the car. Should I get it and eventually drop in an a/c later on? (How much are they anyways?...) or Should I pass on the car and just keep looking for a different evo?
If I do decide to go the AC route, can someone point me in the right direction? Im guessing the part out section is a good start, but if the a/c is similar to the galant or regular lancer models I might be able to find one at a local junk yard.
Thanks guys
Eli

Where can you buy a 78k EVO for 12K? Maybe its a lot different down south but a few months ago when i bought mine i did a 1000 mile search for Evo's under 20k and found less than 5 cars. I checked everywhere, from autotrader to forums
ultimately it is like all other things, what the cars intended use is for. if this is your DD, and NM is hot, then an AC is necessary. Personally, I would just rather wait a little longer and find one that is exactly or close to what I want.
RS's, at least what I thought, should come with AC, which meant it was probably removed. The only reason someone would remove an AC is for tracking the car, which means it was probably beaten on severely which would make sense about the 3rd gear grind. Replacing fluid may help that, but it could be a sign of a much larger and more expensive problem.
If you plan on tracking the car, the RS is the model you want. However, if DD is your preference then having electronic windows and ABS is something that would be preferred, for me at least.
As far as price, a car that is missing normal, daily functional pieces, with 75k miles, and the possibility of a tranny problem is not worth 15 grand.
Evo prices are know to vary dramatically with models, options, mods, and the market. however you should be able to find a suitable car, that does not need anything else added, with less miles for around the same price.
My opinion, save your money and keep looking until you find the car you really want. However, if your willing to spend the time and money to bring it up to your standards bc this is "the one" than by all means do it.
Best of luck with whichever route you decide to go.

Unless theres something you really like about that car, I seriously wouldn't get it. Like what some of the above posts say, the RS comes with A/C . So meaning the guy took it out. Probably not a good car to take haha it was most likely beat hard.
You won't find it from a dealer, look for private party. I bought mine in NY. But not for 12k because mine was in decent shape for what I paid for.
