Thinking of Buying My First Evo.

Hey everyone, I'm looking at purchasing my first evo. I have been looking at a few in my area and I just came across one at a dealer. It is a 03, and it does have quite a few miles on it. I just took it for a test drive today, and it sounds like the transmission was making a small almost grinding noise when I would let off the gas pedal no matter what gear or speed I was at. Anyone know anything about what this could be?

Heres the link to the ad on craigslist - http://medford.craigslist.org/ctd/1842941821.html

I offered about 10 grand for it, and they didn't even seem to hesitate which kinda scared me. Think its a good buy?

^^ True that, about to say about the same thing, ha.

Humm, if you offered $10k and they didn't even hesitate on that offer, then MAYBE something is fishy to that car. \: 10k is a bit low, but then again if they need that money, they'll take it.
And i have a feeling, if you did purchase that car, in the long run, you'll have some problems with the car.

Yeah I'm still looking around, but because of the price being low, I definitely had to go check it out. If it does have tranny problems, anyone know the usual cost to fix?

and it did sound more like something was grinding than just being a whining noise, but I will definitely listen for it again when I'm riding around in other evos.

Used transmissions on here usually go for about a grand. I would personally charge 300 to swap one in.

I can do all, well most, of the work, just need to know if they are hard to find because this will also become my daily driver and i also won't be pushing it too hard, but I'll still have fun.

Hella true, haha.
I remember back in 05-06, if you sold a stocker tranny, it'll be in the $2k+ margin, now it's $1k-1.5, depending on miles and what year.
