Hello there Buying and Evo

Im trying to build a checklist before buying a Evo 9 (Not Rs)

What are the things you guys look for in buying a beast such as the evo? I still have 5 months until i make my purchase. So in the mean time i would like to educate myself before i put myself in a possible financial hole.

make sure you factor in all the costs. premium gas ($40 a tank, in WA state) and your going to get 250 ave per tank maybe more maybe less. Ins costs... could be way high depending on your situation. maintanice costs..oil changes ect..
I know quite a few guys with evos with total monthly costs of about $600 a month, (car payment , ins cost, fuel )
Just think about all that. good luck

will do, thx, havnt factored every aspect of the cost but this will help.

I dont want to judge a car by its look, maintenance wise, where or what should i be looking for so i know the car has been well taken care of.

History of the car / title etc.
Make sure you get a compression test done before you buy the car
Make sure everything lines up properly etc on the exterior
Test drive of course.. make sure it shifts cleanly. Make sure there are
no howling or weird noises coming from the drivetrain etc after 30mph+

make sure it has no oil leaks under it. pretty much inspect it thoroughly.
The compression test is important to know though, so you can assure
youre getting a evo with a healthy motor.

If I could do it all again I would go with higher mileage VIII instead of a IX. You can take the money you save and put it towards appearance and power mods and have yourself a real nice looking street monster. The VIII has that ugly front bumper but if you chop the center nose section out it looks great. Add a Do-Luck style carbon lip and you have a better looking car than a IX. The IX has nicer taillights but you're going to end up swapping in JDM style or VII tails anyways. The IX has MIVEC but your going to end up swapping in aftermarket cams anyways. The IX has the better turbo but your going to end up...... you get the idea. Same with the stock wheels, the clutch, etc. etc.
Plus, when that high mileage engine finally calls it quits you have an excuse to do a built motor. I'd seriously consider it.

From: somewhere testing various tires, brakes, and suspensions.
See the sticky threads in all the forums. They have a ton of information. Searching on specific questions will help you also.
