Find out the DB limit on the exhaust, you might be able todo the rear muffler trick to free up some power...

Oh and you can run dual maps with my TephraXMOD's..
It no longer goes by a db limit, thats how it used to be anything under 95 was legal awhile back. But now the law states that modification to the stock exhaust or replacement of any part on it with anything other then factory parts is considered illegal

Massachusetts is a horrible state to live in. Excise tax. wtf is up with that crap. only a select few states still have it. I gotta pay $25 per every $1000 my car is valued at every year. Mass has one of the if not the highest tax rate of any state also. It is zero fun here. You also cant legally lower or lift any vehicle more then 2 inches up or down in this state. all u can do is exterior stuff. intakes headers you can get away with on non turbo cars or trucks. and lower or raise it a few inches. ANDDDD thats about it. Unless you want to be harrassed by staties every month like I used to be

Wow! So say about $875 on a $35k Evo, then around a little less every year after cuz of depreciation.. that sounds illegal, lol.

I'd talk to SEMA and maybe even your insurance agent about that.. I think most insurance companies try to have a damaged vehicle fixed with cheaper non-OEM parts when available, and from what you're saying, that just wouldn't be possible in Mass.

Maybe move to the next closest state and commute? Sounds easier than dealing with unreasonable laws.

I might be moving down south early next year anyway. Mass is like a ****-state. Its totally rediculous, There are harley's with strait pipes that have like 110 db's or even more. That dont get bothered, I got a pipe on my zx6r and dont get bothered. A harley once went by a place and shattered the glass in it it was so loud. Do they get bugged nope. its total bs

i'm still registered in mass and don't have a stock setup by any means. It took a little shopping around this summer but I was able to get her past inspection. I haven't read the exact terminology of the law as i was out of the country the past year or so, but if i recall the proposed law it ended with a clause that said any aftermarket parts must have the same as stock functionality.

I think it would actually be illegal to require only oem exhaust parts as that creates a monopoly preventing competition from third party suppliers and would definitely be defeated in court.

I forget who, but sure someone on here knows.. But there is a company that takes the factory muffler and reworks it, allowing it to flow better while still retaining stock looks. But as far as a HFC goes they are clearly different looking. Good luck.

i ran 3800 miles beating the crap out of my evo x on bull run doing 25 lbs of boost with AMS CAI, IP piping and their IC with the stock exhaust. No issues until I had to turn if off since they didnt have 93 octane in the hick states. Started to misfire a bit but after I turned off the boost it was ok. You should be fine to take it down the street to get it inspected running that boost with the stock exhaust.

Well I guess I should be good for 30 minutes putting my stock exhaust back on to get a sticker. So I will probably stick with my stage 2 ams. But I will probably get the magnaflow instead of the ams exhaust. and hopefully get that done by winter. Then in the spring maybe throw a different turbo on it like an fp red or something and get it tuned

Just run a custom exhaust, i recently moved from Philly to this craphole and had no choice but to make a custom exhaust, I run a 3" catless turboback with a bullet muffler instead of a resonator and a magnaflow oval 3" muffler at the back. exhaust looks stocker than the stock one , is a bit louder than stock but haven't been bothered since. as for power differences between this and my hks , non. car recently passed inspection with 0 hassles.

Not sure if this was said yet but what about the HKS legamax exhaust? It does look aftermarket but damn it sounds like stock. I have a hi-flo cat and stock dp for now on it.
