So I have a challenge for all evo x owners

As I have previously stated in other posts. I will be picking up a 2010 gsr soon. I will also be modding it soon after I get it also since from what I have seen mitsubishi puts more effort into voiding a warrenty with these cars then just honoring it. So my goals which I think should be pretty easy to obtain are 350-375 wheel hp. So my question is which is the best way to get this. I was going for the ams stage 2, then maybe getting custom tune and upping boost on stock turbo to acheive this. But I am also up for any other suggestions people can throw at me. Here is the MAJOR challenge, However I know in my mind its impossible to pull those numbers with a factory exhaust becasue of the restriction in it. I live in massachusetts. And where I live 99% of inspection sticker places WILL NOT pass ur car if it has an aftermarket exhaust. They are cracking down hardcore here. And I dont know of a place that would pass my car with one. Is it even at all possible with maybe getting a high flow cat/testpipe section. cutting out any resonators also if it has any.

Think most people recommend a full turboback exhuast (maybe with a high-flow cat in place of a test pipe in your case) and a professional tune. Upgraded piping, intercooler, injectors, intakes, and meth kits are also popular.

Anyway, search around the forum and plan to spend some time reading, as there's a lot of good information around here.. good luck, and IBTL!

You can always bolt back up your stock exhaust before inspection. And also, try searching the forums, it will answer ALL your questions.

I have considered just bolting my stock one on for inspection. But if I was running say 25psi of boost, I dont know how safe it would be to drive it, not like I would be beating on it while going. ButI also dont want to cause harm to the turbo becasue it cant flow enough out due to restrictive exhaust. I already know how to get what I want out of it. Believe me I have read alot and do a crap load of research before I buy or do anything. I am just trying to get ideas as to other possible setups besides what I am thinking of doing. And if at all possible achieve it with a stock muffler in place

Maybe get a Cobb AccessPort?

That way you could have an aggressive tune normally, but then instantly change over to a more conservative tune when you swap back to a passable exhaust config.

But depending on how involved you get with your mods, you might have to shop around for a tuner that can work with the AP, since the off-the-shelf AP maps might not be appropriate for whatever other hardware you're gonna install to achieve 350WHP+.

I have heard that sti and evo stock ecu's can hold up to 3 different maps. Is this true? Then you can switch to the different maps using a switch. I know the sti's do cause my buddy has it. But can the evo's? and if it cant is there a way I have like 2 or 3 different maps with a selector switch. Maybe 1 tune for stock exhaust, 1 conservative street tune, and 1 aggresive track tune?

what dyno do you want to get 350-375 on? lol

in all seriousness, if you want 350 with a factory exhaust then you will need to put a BBX or Red straight in:

when you bolt the stock exhaust back in, just drive like a normal human being for a couple hours. I promise your head will not explode and the world will not cease to rotate.

Those are my goals for power. and I am guessing bbx and red are turbos. By red I am assuming you mean the FP red turbo

Why not just get an exhaust with a high flow cat so that it will pass emissions.

Becasue they look at your exhaust. It is not just about passing emissions. If your exhaust is to loud or clearly aftermarket they fail you, I have had it happen already to me with my bmw.

Hmm.. I've never heard of that, even for an STi. It sounds like the same functionality you'd get from an AccessPort.

If that was the case, I don't think Ralliart would've bothered making a rally-spec ECU replacement and Cobb wouldn't have had to make their AccessPort work for the Evo and WRX/STi.

And +1 to what SRT-4 said, and always plus a million to anything Tephra sez

Hmm.. that's lame. Maybe go HFC and try to find the quietest and most stock-looking exhaust setup you can find. As long as you're clean and quiet, any other *****ing the inspection guys do is totally unwarranted imo.

Live in a non-**** state. Your taxes will be lower too, so you'll have more money for modding. Problem solved.

Yes.

Both stock frame turbo's, I think the BBX is probably the closest to stock appearing thou.

Find out the DB limit on the exhaust, you might be able todo the rear muffler trick to free up some power...

Oh and you can run dual maps with my TephraXMOD's..
