215/45/17s on OEM BBS'

hey guys,

I need to pick up a set of winter tires this season for the evo and I found a set of 215/45/17s in great condition for pretty cheap. OEM sizing on the BBS' are 235/45/17s, just wondering if I'd run into any issues running 215s. The tires are Hankook I Pikes, I forgot to measure the contact patch when I was there but there isnt any damage to the sidewalls and no signs of tire patching. If you guys have any input that would be great! I also did search but didn't find a solid answer.

Thanks,
Brendan

You will be fine. I run 225/45 for the winter and I believe someone from AMS just sold his winter tires that were 215/45. I just can't find the thread.

It will look a bit odd, even with 225/45 you can notice small stretch, but less contact in the snow the better. I wish 17x6 wheels were available for the evo as a winter setup.

sounds good, thanks! Just out of curiosity...I always wondered why a skinnier tire is better in the snow than a wider tire.

Large contact surface will make you float on the snow. Narrow tires cut through the snow. Sort of like hydroplaning on water.

The only other issue I'm worried about is that the tires have been studded previously, but the studs have been removed. I wouldn't be able to find out if there are any leaks in them or not till I have them mounted.

Will fit an 8" wheel and makes load. About an inch shorter than stock, however.
