Anyone went from a EVO 8/9 to a 10?
ix to x
I went from TB ix ssl to X base to AS ix se. TB ix was brand new when I bought it in 2006. I traded it for a x because it was heavily modified and I wanted to get rid of it before smog time.
The X I kept bone stock. The pickup was good at highway speeds but on the street I didn't like the extra weight of the car. I ended up selling it.
AS ix se is pretty much stock except for a downpipe and tune. The car feels fast even though it's mostly stock. The best way to describe it is that I like the quickness of the ix.

maybe i am not considered a friend?
My exwife and I traded in a IX for a X. Reason: She thought the X looked better. I guess the electronic gauge cluster was more appealing. I drove the X quite a bit. I just didn't like the overall feel of it. That is just me though. My IX opinion is biased as I have owned 3.

No doubt X look nice, and pull hard, But the 8/9 are on top.
Had a IX for 2 years, bought a X....X is a better DD but felt "disconnected" versus the IX.
As others have mentioned, there are many threads on the subjects, but when I built my race car, it was a IX due to price and the proven platform (reliability)

Personally, I have a soft spot for the Evo 8 and 9. Here is why. I was the 2nd registered owner of the 1st Evos in California. Waiting for years for the Evo to finally make it to the USA. I was so proud to own an 8. Seeing it in that Motor Trend article in July 2003 I believe it was, when they had the 8 shootout with all the top cars of the time. All the top names, Porche, Lambo, Ferr, Lotus, and they threw in a Evo 8 for ****s and giggles. To their surprise the Evo 8 did NOT COME IN LAST in ANY event they had. I mean, DAMN that was so frickin awesome to see. To date one of the best magazine articles I have ever read on the Evo.
As I sold my 8 for financial reasons, I wated almost 2 years to buy another one. My Evo 9 was bought in Apex Silver, and had it only 6 months. Had to sell it due to a Divorce. Then a year later I was able to pick up my current car an Evo 9 MR. To date by far my favorite of the 3. I can't tell you why to everything but the car just works for me better, but ALL Evo's are so special to me. They have always been and continue to be the "underdogs" iin any meet they come to.
I believe the 9 in particular will be a cult classic, or a "collector" car. Not that the 8 won't be, its just the 8 was made for 2003, 04, 05, where as the 9 was only made for 06. In 06
only shipped over like 5700 Evo 9's where 80% of those according to
were sold in SoCal. But there was like only 1000 RS's, 1500 MR's, and the rest were base models sold. So simply put the 9's are the most rare in many cases. They have enough improvements in them to justify the "9" name vs. just leaving it as an "8". The 4G63 in the 9 is the most powerful stock 4G63 ever made, and its limited numbers will continue to keep the value up.
I remember when the X and X MR came out, Motor Trend again did an article agianst a 9 MR, X, and a X MR. The 9 MR was the winning in 0-60, 1/4 mile and fastest lap around streets of Willow. They may have liked the AYC in the new car to some degree, but the 9 was praised for being a more "Drivers Car". To me that says allot about the 9.
The 9 to me will continue to hold its place as one of the Best Evo's Ever Made. My second choice is a Evo 6.5 TME. But thats just me
I love all Evo's. I am just happy they finally made it here to the USA, even without the AYC and what not in the early times. They were and still are, some of the best handleing, best accelerating cars ever put into production.
