New to Evos, please share your opinions
Hey guys, I'm new to the forum. I wanted to ask you guys what your overall opinion is of your Evo. I mean, what do you like the most, and least about your car? I know very little about these cars, and the search button will be my friend for the next few weeks.
I currently have a 2003 Cobra coupe and unfortunately might need to sell it due to an upcoming move from South Carolina to New York. I will need a daily driver for the seasons, and the Cobra will NOT be able to handle that task. I thought an Evo would be a great choice for all weather conditions, as well as having fun in a quick turbo car. I may be putting the Cobra up for sale soon, and will start looking for an Evo. If any of you guys have any advice or random knowlegde to share, please do. Thanks for any input in advance. My name is Ryan.

What do you like/dislike about the cobra? If your a drag racer type then the evo is a waste and not going to make you happy. If you appreciate good handling and an all around fun car then the evo is 10x better.
I dd my Evo and it puts a smile on my face everytime i get on it and hear the turbo spool and take off, The car handles like its on rails compared to alot of other cars out there... Alot of ppl stare(for me at least) It is a hastle sometimes on the upkeep, but its all worth it. Where in NY are you moving to?
But all in all i love my evo, i have big lifted trucks too but i would rather drive the evo all day long. Plus it fits more people than most sporty cars. So good for a family man if you have a girl/kids or friends.

the reality for you is simple...you can make good power and still drive it all year long in NY
it won't drop your stomach or slap your head against the seat without some mods but the ability is there
like they say...a turbo is the replacement for displacement
I went from a 2001 ford lightning to a sti to an evo
sti/evo are just way more fun and safer to drive in poor weather

i hope to upgrade from my current car (civic) to an evo or sti in the future and thought there would be some valuable information here.
op, i dont know what its like to have an evo but i had an impreza and loved the all wheel drive! i worked on a couple of supercharged cobras a few years ago and can tell you they were pretty exciting, but i wouldnt want to drive them all the time.

Do you guys even read the thread? I didn't hear him mention drag racing?
If you want a DD for all seasons with a serious fun factor you cannot beat the evo. The only thing close is the subaru sti.
I find it funny, all the nice sporty cars in my town get put away for the winter except for the evos and subarus. I've got my winter shoes strapped on right now and can't wait for the snow.
I say ideally if you want to drive it year round it's nice to have a set of summer and winter tires plus coilovers. That way you can run a good looking drop most of the year but dial it back up for the white stuff.

Yeah, the main reason that I would want an Evo, is so that I could drive it year round without having to worry about getting stuck. I am originally from Chicago, and I had Cobras, T/A's, Vettes, etc. and they were all HORRIBLE in the snow. The worst of all was the Cobra. With 700hp and a stage 3 clutch, I can't even engage the clutch in the snow without spinning and sliding all over. Yes, I do drag race the Cobra, but not often, and I wouldn't be looking for MAX power from the Evo. I would be looking for a lightly modded one pushing maybe 330rwhp.......maybe somewhere in that area? I will be moving to Manhattan probably within a few months. I love my Cobra, but it just will not be possible for me to have it there. Oh, by the way, where is the place to post pics on this forum. I didn't see a pics and vids section, maybe I missed it. I will post some pics of my Cobra.
EVO all around fun and handling. Although you have to understand that it has a high-performance engine and demands frequent maintenence. But all us evo owners live up with that cuz the joy the car brings on twisty roads is simply amazing
it handles like a dream and you can modify it very easily. Best advice is drive one first and see how like it.
