First Evo
First Evo
Hey guys I'm new to the site. I purchased my first Evo about 3 days ago. Its an '05 TB.
Engine mods for now are: Perrin Intake, Turbo back exhaust, AMS FMIC and Lower piping and a manual boost contoller.
I do not yet have a boost gauge or a wideband but I will have them in the next couple weeks. (So I don't really know how much boost I'm running)
When I test drove the car it drove great, very smooth. It was pretty quick but I didn't really get into it much over 5k rpm. When I was checking the interior out I opened the glove box and I saw two wires sticking out, 1 said IN and the other said OUT. There was also a red button that was illuminated in there and when I asked the dealership I purchased from they said the button may be used to switch between different fuel maps and that the ecu may be aftermarket. The car drove great so I made the purchase.
Yesterday I was driving on the interstate, geared down into 4th and cracked the throttle. It was pulling fine until about 5500 rpm when it sounded like it back fired. It kind of felt like it fuel cut on me but I'm not really sure.
Any ideas on what it could be and what the mysterious red button could be would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Also forgot to mention that when I cracked the throttle the SES light was flashing on and off, but when I let out of it the light went away. The car is still driving fine but I haven't hit it hard since then because I don't want to tear anything up....
Thanks again
Thanks again
the in and out with red button and light is your LC-1 wideband, not map switching. you might want to replace your spark plugs or check them out. the car might could also use a retune, the flashing light is part of a tephra rom which is part of the tune in your car where when the car knocks the check engine light flashes to let you know its probably a good idea to let off the throttle so the engine doesnt get damaged

just seen you were in charlotte, im not far from there about 30 minutes. maybe ill see you around sometime. you could message the user "Kasey" on here, he tunes many people in the charlotte area and is a pretty nice and cool guy and used to be a tuner for maperformance
Yeah I know of him. I go to school in Charlotte but I actually live in Shelby. I go to Hickory most weekends and he's tuned most of the Evo's up that way too so I'll probably be contacting him sometime within the next week or so. Thanks again for your help.

Thanks bro...you're car looks great and I see you're from mooresville. Not too far from me at all.
Thanks for the welcome. I'll try to post up some better pics tomorrow, we've had some crappy weather here lately. And as for plans for the car i'm currently looking for a IX turbo and bov, cams will come this summer. My ultimate goal for it is e85, built 2.0 and an fp red or black. That'll probably happen next year around tax time
