In the upcoming months, I should be in the market for buying an Evo as I would like to sell my Acura TSX.
I haven't a clue why the Evo draws me so much toward it, But im still open for STI or EVO platforms.
What would someone suggest a pro v con toward each would be?
I've previously turboed my '00 Civic Si with a GSR motor & .60trim garrett turbo, so some terms I will be able to understand.
I'm sick of FWD cars in my area (connecticut) becuase it snows here. Snow tires on a FWD car don't cut it, and I dont want a suv.
My tsx also lacks the community for modding, as its just beginning & hondata(piggybak ecu) isn't perfected yet and is extremely costly. I can't bare the DBW system any longer, and ABS/VSA isn't any better either. Frankly, There's no one else I know who even owns a TSX that is modifying it, so its very boring. Most of the community is boring aswell, no real excitement. I do know I'm comparing a car that wasn't made to go fast or handle well, to one that does. But it seems like I guess I'll never grow out of that modbug habbit.
I would say my TSX hasn't been modified for HP numbers, but aesthetics. 18x9/18x10 work equips sitting on buddy club N+ suspension, camber kit from ingalls, progress rsb, xlr8 cat & a apexi ws2 exhaust. stock intake, upgraded brakes. recaro seats from euro-r, small stuff.
My reason for choosing an Evo or STI is that they are AWD & Turbo + have 4 doors. I don't want German car either, so Audi was straight out of the question, they pose way to many issues & the volkswagen/audi community has gone downhill. I previously owned two GTI and when i owned them they were alright, but now everything blows.
So EvoM community, Is an EVO a good choice for me, or will I want an STI?

I'm primarily looking at 06+ IX. Distinctly a Electric Blue or White.

yeah im not so sure of those I own an X right now and its just an overall awesome car to drive. If you want to buy a purist drivers car you will like the evolution more then the STi.

haha, thats crazy. unfortunatly i can only afford to actually own one car that requires me to make payments on or pulling out a loan as i only have less than 10,000 of cash.
So as much as I'd like to get an X, I just can't afford the payment if I bought it new at 39,000+

Look for a used X, you can get them around the same price as a 9 and the AYC kills it in the X. The Evo feels almost RWD instead of FWD!

If you can't swing a 10, the IX is definitely a good choice. I'd go with the EVO over the subaru all day long for a few reasons.
Reasons: Subaru's interior looks like *** with all that blue plastic everywhere, and blue seats. the seats also suck *** in STi's. Also, Suby's don't handle as well, aren't as fast in a straight line, and it's a lot cheaper to make power in EVO's than STi's.
Like someone said, if you can find a used X, go for it, if not, a IX would be great too. Personally, I'm partial to the MR's. 6 speed, bilstiens, aluminum roof, zero lift kit, brake air guides, HID's, BBS wheels, etc. You can get the MR in WW, but not in EB. if you want EB, you'd have to look for a standard IX. WW can be had in any model. standard, RS, MR, SE, or MR SE.

there's no such thing as a GSR in america until you get to the X. The standard IX is the only one offered in EB
OB on the X is offered on the GSR, and the SE
OB on the X is offered on the GSR, and the SE
They also use different fluid. The 6 speed uses Diaqueen GL-4 75w-85, while the 5 speed uses 75w-90 OR 75w-85. Also, the 5 speed is thought to be stronger than the 6 speed when you start getting into high hp applications like 500whp+. there are plenty of guys on this board though that have no problems with power and the 6speed.
Don't listen to the BS about the 6 speed being crap or weak. 99% of the people that talk **** about the 6 speed HAVE NEVER OWNED ONE. they just heard from some guy's friend about a dude that knew a guy that was married to some chick who's babysitter dated a dude who's buddy heard about a guy they went to school with that had a friend that broke one.
While the 6 speed may not be as strong as the 5 speed in high hp applications, it is by no means weak. Perfect example, in other markets the 6 speed is the only transmission available. the 6 speed is also standard on the FQ-360 and FQ-400 EVO's. the 1-3rd gears on the two are identical. the problem most people have with the 6 speed IF they have any issue at all is 4th gear, and that's usually a problem road racers have.
for drag racing, the first 3 gears are just as strong as the 5 speed.
The 6 speed will cruise at a lower RPM on the highway, obviously. I've got 172k+ On my 6 speed with plenty of launching, racing, autocrossing, and general vehicluar tomfoolery with zero issues. Love my 6 speed.
i wouldn't want another 5 speed, but i won't let it limit my options. the motors are the same on either correct? any cosmetic differences or suspension & brake differences?
