Transfercase, timing belts and water pumps oh my HELP

Ok so new to Evo I have a 2nd gen eclipse and now Evo 8. I have a slight leak coming from the transfercase rear seal ordered one, from dealer gonna replace that asap. But until it comes in I am gonna to keep it topped off until it comes in. Can some one tell me ( or hopefully have a photo ) of the fill spot and drain spot. I know it take .62 of a quart or 19.98 oz. I bought the mitsubishi oil today.

Second I need timing belt and water pump any idea how much this costs at the dealer? I know the parts are like 450 but any idea on labor or book time?

parts shouldn't be that expensive. check www.mitsubishiparts.net on here. I don't know about dealer prices because I've never gone to a dealer for a timing belt...i know they are overpriced though. my timing belt jobs parts and labor usually run around $600 or so I believe.

as for the transfer case, the drain bolt is on the bottom. it's a 24mm bolt. the fill bolt is on the side facing the passenger side. 17mm bolt I think? dunno...but it's about half way up the housing and i think it may say fill on it.

search this forum, there are pics in the DIY section of all of this.

Timing belt jobs are easy, to me at least. Too bad you don't live closer, I'd charge you quite a bit less than a dealer.

So my brother the mechanic stated " I'm pretty sure that's and interference motor"
Which means if I do this wrong the valves are all ruined correct?

And is the 4g63 an interference motor

The mechanic is correct about the 4g63 being an interference engine and a timing belt replacement is a big job. It is not uncommon for professionals to screw this job up.

Ok so I called mitsu they said 780 for timing balance and waterpump, then they said I probably don't need water pump. Shouldn't I have them change it if they are in there

There's no telling how long a water pump will go. Many owners like the security of having a new pump at timing belt time. I am one of them.

The only way to know for sure is to be able to see the future. If the pump does not live to see 120K then you get to pay of an early timing belt job and maybe a tow.

Hello,

Similar to Sanny632, I am a relative newbie as well. Have a 1995 Talon AWD in the past and now have a 2003 Evo 8.

Question - I have 42,000 miles on my 2003 Evo 8 (well maintained and with slight bolt on mods). The vehicles is approaching 8 years...should I do the timing belt now or wait to 60,000 miles? I know age wise its overdue but mileage wise, not quite there yet.

The car has been on the east coast most of the time in NY and I recently moved to Phoenix Arizona about 1.5 years ago. So its been through extreme cold and heat.

Would anyone have a recommended repair shop in the Phoenix, Chandler, Gilbert AZ area they suggest me bringing the Evo there. Having some experience with DSMs, I know the timing belt/water pump is a big job and some folks can unfortunately mess up. Any recommendations to the repair shop and price estimate would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
