either way with being in college can u really afford an evo? did u calculate the cost of gas, oil and fluid changes, how bout related maintenance items, possibly a new clutch, timing belt, etc... make sure you can afford this stuff first. An evo is a great car but if you can only afford the payment, insurance and gas then i would look for something else cause a timing belt and new clutch isnt cheap specially if you cant do the work yourself...

Well, the car will be paid for in full, no payments will be needed. I got an inheritance from a dead relative. I have replaced the clutch and retimed my 91 tsi. I am pretty sure i would be capable of doing this in the Evo myself. I understand the fluids can be expensive but I think it can be afforded.

None. Best would be something that's very reliable, easy to maintain, park, and fuel, and inexpensive to insure.

It's all about what you want. I was willing to put up with the maintenance, gas cosumption and insurance prices before I bought my Evo. The fun I've had with my Evos has been worth putting up with the bs.

Sometimes buying a higher mileage EVO is a good thing!! I know that my evo with 105k miles is probably in better condition body and motor wise than some 50-60k mile cars!! Also, you know all of the maintenance has been done up to that point If the transmission or transfer case hasn't been replaced at 80-100k miles, it won't be needing to be replaced. It would have broken a long time ago. Also, a 40-50k mile evo could have gone through A LOT of racing. My evo, with 105k miles is still on the original factory clutch.

Guys he has a DSM, I'm sure he knows how to do maintenance. Good luck on finding the EVO you want. I wouldn't worry to much about higher mileage EVO's. I've got 185K on my DSM, and it's a 7 bolt, and hasn't been rebuilt it's still boosting strong.

We are probably going to be selling our 2004 Evo this spring. We have had it for a year and a half. Brought it up North from Atlanta in Sept. 2009. Has about 50,000 miles on it currently. Had the transmission rebuilt 1 year ago and an Exedy stage 1 clutch put in at that time. Does need a transfer case rebuild at the moment, its whining. Should have the transfer case rebuilt/replaced in the next month. Other than Tien lowering springs, pretty much stock. Looking to get about $18-$19k after the transfer case is fixed. Clean title, not salvage.

So, if you can scrape up another $3-4k, I know you can get the car that your looking for.

My Tsi has about 165k, and rebuilt by previous owner, but I did the 60k, tranny, and clutch. Glad to hear yours is still runnin good!
