2008 evo GSR or 2002 porsche boxter s?

So i have a friend that goes to the track alot and wants to by either a used 2008 GSR or a used 2002 boxter S. He is really leaning towards the S since he found one that only has like 12,000 miles on it and is alot cheaper. What are the pro's and con's of the S? I have never had one or have driven one so I have no experience with them. Thanks!

Loud, impractical, expensive to maintain, 2002 models are probably a crap shoot. I would definitely recommend the newer GSR, although there might be issues there as well.

Also I'm pretty sure the older Porsche Boxster S's would be slower around a track then the GSR. Porsche didn't really fix the suspension/handling of the Boxster/Caymen platform until recently.

I'd take an S2000 over the Boxster any day.

Evo all day. The boxter will end up costing more in the long run due to the expensive replacement parts and performance upgrades to make it competitive with the evo.

I'm not sure if its the boxsters around here, but they honestly sound terrible.

AMAZING! i was in the exact same boat in 2008! saw a yellow boxster S in michigan fully loaded, leather, heated seats, etc etc for like 38k with like 15000 miles.

got the X because my wife was pregnant then and i knew a 4 door was a lot better than a 2 door.

IF my wife was not pregnant i think i would have taken the porsche.

The new 2010 boxster S is an amazing car, I can vouge it handles better than any Evo or STI to date. Its also probably as fast as a stage 2 car from a roll. Obviously, this is irrelevent to the OP question, but just saying.

However, I'd defintely take an S2k over an old Boxster.
