Need a Straight Up Answer
I really like the EVO X and am looking at it seriously to purchase in the fall. However, I also have all these big boy muscle cars enticing me as well with they're big V-8's at the same cost.
I keep trying to talk myself out of the EVO X because it doesn't have those big horsepower numbers and to be honest I've had the 4 cyl Prelude for the past 10 years and dont wanna be dissapointed. I know I know the EVO is a different kinda monster than say a lude..waaay different. And also way different than a muscle car.
This will be my daily driver, I live in the Northeast with curvy fun backroads where it snows and I have a child so the EVO seems like the logical choice.
Straight up...will I be dissapointed with this EVO? And I know this is very opinionated but hopefully you catch my drift on what I'm saying...you know.. a year or 2 after purchase your kinda "eh". And when I do get used to the stock power, how easily and without a huge cost can these engines be upgraded?
Did any of you have these same thoughts when you where in the market to purchase? And what reasons justified the EVO?

Definitely test drive on the evo is a different kind of fast. Big horsepower evo's make their power later in the rpm range so you don't get that punchy feeling of a muscle car but the excitement of bike like acceleration later.
Everyone has a preference though some people can't take the lag and need big motors.

You will not be disappointed. The Evo will easily out-handle any V8 muscle car you buy plus be far better in the snow with AWD. In terms of an all-around performance car you simply can't beat an Evo for the price.

I say buy the Evo and then with about 2k extra in mods you will really be smiling. And BTW, an Evo is really easy o work on (maybe excluding the downpipe
). Most parts are all bolt on stuff.

I do not have an X, I do however have an Evo.
This is my first Evo as well as my first performance car. I do have a child and a wife. I also live in an area where we get snow, ice, rain, and have a lot of country back roads that are curvy that I need to drive in order to get to work.
I have had my Evo on 3" of ice without a problem. I have had my Evo in 7" of snow and still no problem. I would not take anything in the same price range over my Evo. It is as another poster said easy enough to work on (even for the novice such as myself), fun to drive and works great with a family.
I do not ever plan on getting rid of my Evo (unless some unforeseen circumstances some about that leave me without any other choice). Even with the weather I have been through the Evo handled great and at decent speeds.
I have seen co-workers with their mustangs and cameros that can go nowhere when there is even a slight amount of snow. I can still travel at relatively normal speeds. They can go fast in a straight line on dry pavement, without that they are nothing more than large metal slugs.
Give me an Evo and the winding roads covered with snow over anything else.

Most of this has already been said, but I was looking for a DD that could be driven all seasons, a capable weekend track toy out of the box, and under $35K. I also have kids and live in the Northeast. Based on my criteria it really was only Evo vs STi and the Evo won hands down.
My only advice would be drive everything your considering and make a choice based on what fits you best. I love the Evo but it's not for everyone.

Funny, one of my co workers owns a Lude SH with a Greddy turbo kit. He said he wants an Evo X also.
I myself am looking out for a WW X.
American muscle is cool for the price, but during the winter in the NE it might suck.
