Should I get an Evo 8 or 9? MR

So I was looking at getting an IX MR but I'm thinking the price difference might make it worth getting an 8. I know the 9 has the Mivec and a better turbo but as far as I can tell the rest of the differences are very minor. The most I really want to spend is 21k.

Looking for a WW one with decent mileage. Prefer completely and totally bone stock. Not wanting to buy a modded and abused one hehe. I'd rather do all the breaking my self.

Get a SE or RS and add the mr stuff later but most likely there wont be a need if you are going the mod the car, if youre keeping it stock, i still advise a 5-speed over the 6-speed; i have a mr and im aready taking mr package off that made me wish i got a rs or gsr. stick with the IX

The MR 6-speed will be problematic if you push it hard.

Edit: if you are in the market for an unmolested evo, you probably will be very limited to what you'll find anyway. If you find a stock evo, I would take it regardless of its trim.

If your after a stockish EVO and don't plan on building a Motor, adding a bigger turbo with all supporting mods, get a IX. If your going to build it, get a VIII, you won't need the MIVEC.

I often wish I would have kept my 8. Evo 9 turbos are a dime a dozen. The ACD doesn't seem to add a lot IMO if you don't track the car or take it off road especially if you plan to do some serious suspension mods. Lastly MIVEC is important and I am thankful I have it but if you plan on putting aftermarket cams in an 8 then it levels the playing field. At that point MIVEC mostly allows the tuner to smooth the idle out on aggressive cams. If you are set on a 9 I also suggest the SE.

Does the SE still have the suede seats and the aluminum roof, hood, and trunk? And what about the suspension?

I am going to track it and I have participated in a couple rally-x events in the past

Well, they hate on it, cuz when you make power or beat on it, it ends up breaking.

But other then that, the 6speed is great. Its a lot smoother then the 5sp and better for daily driving, IMO.

I'm new to the Evos myself. I love em all. I don't see you going wrong with whatever one you like honestly. You're obviously going to make it your car anyways so if there is something you dont like as simple as interior, you could change it. Id find what one suits you most mechanically and worry about cosmetic later?

IX MR all day. With minimal mods and a reliable 380WHP, you're good my friend. It doesnt matter which you choose. It all boils down to your pride, ego and your $$$.
