Arrow New here...any ideas?

Hey all!

I’ve been dreaming of having an evo since around 03-04. Of course $ has always been an issue. Now that I have a reliable job and income...it is time!

I’m selling my 03 civic to pay off the loan I have on it. There are 2 evos I have my eye on.

One is a '05 evo 8 with 50,xxx miles and had 3 mods. He is asking $22k, but is willing to go $20k. (http://micronesia.craigslist.org/cto/2272191290.html)

- Intake
- Exhaust
- Greddy BOV

There are two things I’m not sure of with this evo -
1) The driver tire kind of "pops" the seller said he had no idea what it was but guessed it was a tierod...but after reading an article on here I have some ideas.
2) This is the 3rd owner. The previous lost all the paperwork and sold it to a local here. The current owner bought it as an impulse buy and after a few months don’t feel comfortable handling it so he is looking to sell. So I’m nervous about knowing what has and more importantly what has NOT been done to this car in terms of maintenance.

The engine runs very hot, although the temp gauge was about halfway. I’m having some people who work on/mod cars checking out the car just to double-check I’m not buying something that is going to sink me in a few months with repairs. Also the steering wheel is in very bad shape and would have to be replaced, it's fraying and falling apart.

The second one is listen on here (https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sale-cars-sale/527923-2006-evo-ix-mr-li-ny.html) just sent a pm to the owner for additional info. I love the idea this this is stock so I can learn with everything as I go. Also that there is documentation from the owner so I how it has been treated.

I’ve worked on cars with friends before, but this would be my first car that id work on myself, and it being an evo I CANT wait.

Any suggestions or input?

-Thanks

dont buy the 05 for that price at all. its got problems, the heat issue isnt one though when the car is warm your going to see a lot of heat coming from the hole in the hood.

Yea that's what I was leaning toward. I remember my friends back in the states ran hot, I just didn't remember how hot. Any sure fire signs that should be noted when I look at the evo again this weekend? noise, feel, look, etc?

Yeah, I wouldn't pay $22k for an 05 with 50k + miles.

Evo IX MR, for starter its had a clutch done, timing belt done. Thats worth $2-$3000. Its also an evo IX not and VIII so it has MIVEC about $2000 more on blue book. Its has the trans, center diff, rear fluids changed so you will not have to worry about those. Its funny how no evo for sale mentions maintenace, kinda of leads you to believe its never been done. Option #2 seems like a get in and drive till 120k,do another timing belt other then oil changes.
KBB.COM $24,000 For Private Party value on Excellent...Seems to me like a killer deal.

See if the owner of the 05 goes lower than 18k.

option #2, one the owner is on forums so he cares that much and hes got records of maintenance and that speaks for itself. the other one sounds like an evo that gets "around" and will only lead to problems...good luck
